COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Dark tangy beer. Quite creamy, strong tone of bitter coca cola. Fruity undertone.

Bottle @ home. Pours a huge red/tan head with a dark maroon body. Sour, candy sugar, Belgian-style aroma. Flavor is a bit tart, dark Belgian ale flavor with some red fruits and brown sugar. Quite sweet and a little bit sour flavor that is very complex and interesting. Sweet candy sugar and a bit sour finish. Impressive beer.

Bottle. Dark copper brown, huge fluffy light tan head that lasts quite a while. Yeasty and some earthy hoppiness on along with the dark fruit sweetness of the aroma. Bittersweet flavors, and not as sugary as others in the style. Drier, but very warming. Lots of nice maltiness and dark fruits, and finishes lightly bitter. Great balance, and really nice brew.

Pours a deep chestnut color with a massive foamy light brown head. Nose is licorice, soy sauce, artificial chocolate flavored taffy. Taste is pretty much the same. Slightly tart and a medium weight mouthfeel. Not a huge fan.

Clear brown color with reddish hues. Thick, creamy head. Aroma has whiffs of raisins, vanilla, and a strong alcohol character. The taste starts out sweet and finishes with a nice chocolate/coffee flavor. Medium bodied, smooth finish, lasting malty flavor. Highly recommended.

33 cL bottle imported. A real gusher. Attractive dark red beer. Smells a little bit krieky. Even tastes slightly kriek otherwise very much a Belgian red ale, full of flavour. This is a stong and tasty beer, better than I’d expected.

Bottle. Dark brown, average almost fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty aroma, sour but same time there is some sugary sweetness with fruitiness. Malty body is average, sweetish and spicy (pepper?) and some alcohol. Finish is average, malty and dryish with quite heavy alcohol and spiciness. Body is not so hefty, so this amount of alcohol and spiciness just no not work.

bottle poured a ruby brown in color with a thick one finger off white head that coated the glass and retained a covering through the whole glass. aroma has brown sugar, caramel, dark fruit, light spices, and some tobacco. mouth feel is medium with sugar coating and high side carbonation. flavor brings out belgian yeast, dark fruits, peppery spice, anise, licorice, brown sugar, and a bit of heat going into the finish. sweet but not overly so and the spice and yeast work it out well giving nice character that does not dominate allowing the beer as a whole to shine.
