COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

330cl bottle. finally getting around to rating this... pours a dark cinammon/toffee brown with a rather large fluffy light beige head.... belgiany yeast mostly favored in the aroma with a little spicy mustiness to fall alongside mildly tart dark fruits... flavors begin on the sweeter side with a belgiany yeast profile, malty in nature but then quickly making the transition to more of a tart fruitiness as well as a faint bitterness in the finish. carbonation is lively and effervescent as it is with most de dolle brews so non-surprising to say the least (especially given the way it poured). goes down nicely although i sensed a bit of heat as i worked my way through the glass.

Mörka bär, syrlig, lite källarsmak (och doft) Stor smak av röda bär och plommon. Vinös och en mycket fyllig och trevlig öl.

Belgian Strong Ale? That’s a broad category... more like Belgian red or even sour ale. Smell is vinous, plums, booze, smoke, a bit of caramel, slight vanilla. Taste is sweet and sour, not great. I expected more from this.

Appearance: muddy medium brown, with lots of bubbles, a short-lived tan head, and some minor lacing. Aroma: like an abbey dubbel: lots of brown sugar, caramel, and malts; a bunch of dark fruit: raisin, cherry, plum; hint of a leathery sauna. Taste: very tart, hints of unripe fruit, a bit of sweet brown sugar, and a good dosing of yeast. Finish: lingering dry tartness and alcohol. Notes: I thought it was fine, but maybe I should have let it age a couple years. Lots of carbonation kept it from getting too heavy, but the alcohol burn was pronounced.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2011 è spessa come supergiovane, e ne va bevuta poca poca, secondo me.. però da enormi soddisfazioni, specie con un bel dolce. Grande De Dolle

Bottle/11.6oz - Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown in color with a small off-white head that stuck around to produce some minor lacing on the glass. A bit over carbonated. Aroma is strong of dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar with some tartness. flavor is also mildly tart with plenty of dark fruit. Some vinous characteristics too. Alcohol is a bit too present for my liking. Finish is slightly tart with lingering dark fruit flavors. Good, but did not live up to its reputation...

Dark dusty plum, little woodsy. Dark ruby brown, thick creamy pale tan head. Chewy leather, cola nut, molasses, little sweet grape juice and hot with alcohol. I’d like to start drinking this beer with a minimum of 2 years on it.,

Bottle 33cl. A brown reddish beer with a nice and persistent head. Smell is malty, toasted and yeast like. Aroma is on malt and spices, Gingerbread, nice toasted notes, red fruits and dry grapes. An intense and complex body, near to quadruple style beer. Long aftertaste, on dry fruits and brown malt. Nice beer, the alcohol is very well hidden.
