COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Dark dusty plum, little woodsy. Dark ruby brown, thick creamy pale tan head. Chewy leather, cola nut, molasses, little sweet grape juice and hot with alcohol. I’d like to start drinking this beer with a minimum of 2 years on it.,

Bottle 33cl. A brown reddish beer with a nice and persistent head. Smell is malty, toasted and yeast like. Aroma is on malt and spices, Gingerbread, nice toasted notes, red fruits and dry grapes. An intense and complex body, near to quadruple style beer. Long aftertaste, on dry fruits and brown malt. Nice beer, the alcohol is very well hidden.

33cl bottle. Dark brown with an everlasting head. Dried fruit, cherry , strawberry, caramel, and some fruity alcohol in the aroma. Dry and somewhat boozy with a hint of chocolate and some fried fruit. Mildly funky and acidic as well. Gets bitter through the finish, but hop character is low. Medium body and high carbonation. Almost seems a touch oxidized but that’s mild. A bit too apparent with the alcohol.

Very dark, with enormous head. Sweet and rich aroma. Flavor is similar to, and basically just as good as, a Rochefort 10. Yes!

Had this at Max and Jess’s housewarming. Bottle from 82. Pours a ruby brown, clear, very thin white head. Super funky, nutty and a bit of acetone. Quite sweet, light balsamic old oxidized caramel. Long sweet finish.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2010 It has a very good looking Brown/red color. Aroma of pines, grapefruit, lime and yeast. Taste is also grapefruit, citrus, malty notes, lime and some very nice yeast. This sure is original (:

330 ml bottle @ Olutravintola Malja. Rated @ 1.6.2010.
Pours a dark brown colour with a light brown head. Yeast particles on the glass. Aroma of sweet malts, yeast and fruits. Flavour of caramel, dark fruits, syrup and different kinds of spices. Very pleasant flavour. Full bodied with decent carbonation. Great brew.

Bottle (33cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Clear, deep ruby colour. Massive offwhite head with unevenly sized bubbles, slowly reducing to a thick, stable layer. Very fruity and sweet aroma. Plum, raspberry, cherry, raisin, malt and caramel. The sweetness is matched by just the right acidity, giving a refreshing result. Full bodied, suitably fizzy carbonation. Lovely dessert beer.

Massive off-white head on a dark red/brown beer. Aroma is pleasant spices (clove, nutmeg?), belgian yeast, raisin/date, and a touch of tart tang underneath. Flavor is rich with a soft feel. More spice, raisin/date, and a marked alcohol tinge in the finish. Slightest tart flavor near the finish but not nearly as strong as perceived in the aroma. One of the better belgium strong ales I’ve had.

A: The pour is a dark amber color with a slight haze and a massive tan head. S: Initially there are some tart fruit aromas followed swiftly by a blend of spices and sweet malts. Lots of caramel, candi sugar, and dark stone fruits. T: Lots and lots of sweet dark fruit flavors immediately hit the palate--plums, raisins, and figs, to be more detailed. Some mild nutmeg flavor along with a sugary sweetness. Quite a bit of alcohol comes through as well. M: The body is excellent and the carbonation is that wonderful intensely effervescent kind that has a light creaminess. D: Great nose on this beer but the alcohol presence knocks down the enjoyment of this one. Might be better with some age.
