COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. bottle from tops with no marked date consumed 4/27/2010. hazy rich orange-red hued brown with a horrifically huge and rocky khaki colored head. the smell reminds me of airy raisin brioche....mmmm... yeasty dough, brown sugar, florals, bubblegum, a little dustiness and some alcohol stinging as well. the flavor is very vinous and very wine-like tart on the finish. qualities before that are yeasty dough, brown sugar/candi, cinnamon, chocolate, plums and a pleasant savory note in the back. along the tartness there is a clean dry alcohol finish. medium bodied and soft with ample carbonation. 8/4/8/4/16/4.0

Pours a murky brown color with a large, long lasting off-white head. Aroma is bready and spicy, dark fruit with some tartness as well. Flavor is caramel, spice, and dark fruit. Sweet caramel lingers into the finish.

11.2 ounce bottle from Wine & Beer Westpark in Richmond, VA. Pours a dark murky rust brown color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee, butterscotch and a bready, slightly vegetal note. The taste is tart cherries, vegetal notes, brown sugary malts, some spice, faint chocolate and a yeasty finish. Medium bodied, highly carbonated and smooth. Pretty good beer. 5/19/10

Appear. Center-poured into a tulip glass. Holy head. We will be waiting to pour more. Waiting... Head is huge! (twss) Beer is a cloudy light brown/honey brown, Killer retention. Head is full of fat bulbs (expected tight finer carbonation) Aroma. Light wheat toast notes with hints of dark fruits, faint though, falls on the back of nose. Think’n I smell champagne yeast. Taste. Good. This is a good beer. The alcohol is big but crucial in cutting the apparent sweetness. Well balanced flavor profile. Bread/toast qualities emerge with notes of sweetness. Hops tingle only the edges of the palate. Champagne yeast becomes more apparent, giving a big beer a much softer delivery. Palate. Complex, Intriguing. Yeast definitly compliments style. Lighter and crisper than expected. Overall. Very drinkable, Probably too drinkable at 9% abv. A new fav! Thanks Mike!

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2011 Bottle that is almost a gusher, 11C. Reddish amber with a lasting thick beige head (in a Westmalle chalice). Aroma of sweet plums, yeast with a little chocolate (!?) and wood. The aroma suggests sweetness, but the taste has sourness and bitterness too. There’s a milk sourness element in the luscious mouthfeel too. Has both fortified wine and cider aspects. Complex fruit/ malt/ yeast taste that’s too nice to bother picking things out. Much more interesting than the aroma suggested. An absolute cracker. [7 5 9 5 17 4.3]

Deep reddish amber with a cm of beige head. Aroma has dark sugars, ripe and under-ripe plums, chocolate, earth. Mouthfeel is creamy and quite carbonated - a little much perhaps. Very fruity with lots of sweet and sour plums. Alcohol is quite prominent and a little PX sherry-like. Spicy bitterness and aged vinegar sourness at the end. Lovely beer.

Bottle, 33 cl. Good appearance, nice hazelnut color with a lightly tanned head. Aroma reveals a lot of belgian yeast doing its job with a fruitiness with some berries, a great deal of yeast sweetness along with hints of oily nuts and caramel. The taste is also very yeasty, but not as sweet as the aroma hints. The yeast contributes with some dark fruits, nuts, caramel-malts, small hoppiness in the finish. A good interpretation on the belgian strong ale.
