COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Pours a dark brown red color with a nice beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, hops, apples, caramels and spices. Flavors of roasted malts, caramels, apples, wallnuts, liquorice, candy and spices. Good carbonation, good ballance between sweet, bitter and sour, with a dry finish. Powerfull and complex with lots of flavors and well balanced. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Reddish brown with a massive beige creamy head with soapy bubbles. Aroma is hilarious, green apples, sour candy, sugar, some caramel, caramelized fruits. Very fresh. The flavour doesn’t quite match, caramel, candi sugar, dark fruits, yeast, alcohol with a frisky sourness. Some alcohol burn. The finish is a tad liquorice-like. Not in flavour, but in the peppery feel on the tongue. As usual with belgian beers, this is a bit heavily carbed. I would have liked it smoother and more mellowly carbed. Medium bodied. All in all, a different, cool brew that caught me by surprise.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9%. The glass fills completely by a huge beige head, and the brown beer appears only slowly. Intense fruity aroma with berry notes, also some oaky, spicy and vinous notes. The flavour has a powerful malty sweetness and intense vinous notes, warming mouthfeel. Notes of oak and berries again. Awesome beer.

33cl bottle at Håndverkerstuene. No batch or date info. Dark orange/golden colour with a medium big head. Aroma is fruity with notes of yeast and oak. Some red berries as well. Flavour is bitter and a tad carbonated. Oak and lingonberries. Some yeast and honey as well. A decent beer, but not my favorite from De Dolle.
