Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Pours a large frothy light brown head that mostly diminishes. Bodybisnhazy dark brown, sparkles are visible. Aroma contains modrate malts (light bread, cookie, hay, roasted malts, molasses and mild coffee), light yeasts (flowers, grass, orange), light yeasts (dough, barnyard) and grape, raisin, apple, peach, cherry, cassis, toffee, brown sugar, apricot and spices. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and light sweet, followed by sweet, light bitter and sweet and finally light bitter. Inbetween tartness (like a sour ale) is noticeable. Body is medium, with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Contains a mix of sour and sweet fruits, with a mocca coffee finish. Complex and subtle, very good.

Smell of raisins, quite a bit booze, and sweet sticky plums. Taste is quite heavy, but has a very mellowed out tartness, and the yeast in this one is quite different. Heavy raisin notes, some vanilla, weak plum, very boozy, and very sweet. Reminds me of Rochefort 8, but signifantly less refreshing, and way sweeter.

A really surprising beer. Caramel, dark chocolate ant the start with a more bitter end with coffee and alcohol swarming over the tip of tongue. Lekkere drankje

Again a original brew from de Dolle brouwers. Sweet, fruity and yeasty, but also hoppy and even a bit tardiness.

A- Pours a deep, ruddy brown hue with a huge, 3 finger off white head that leaves lots of lacing on the way down. S- Sweet apple, plum, grape T- Raisin, fig, sweet plum, lots of residual sweetness on the back end. M- Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. D- Seemed too sweet and too effervescent for me. Maybe some time on this one helps it come together.
