COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

First De Dolle I’ve had that wasn’t a gusher, but the carbonation was still plentiful, pouring a nice amber-tinted off white head on top of a deep bright reddish amber hazy pour. Yeast, malt, bread, intense and complex candied fruit and brown sugar on the nose and even more so on the palate. Would love to taste this aged a few years, though the intensity it has now is really lovely.

Appearance: red brown color. Great beige head, some rocky, not much dense and very lasting. Aroma: yeasty, mainly, and caramel and dark malts smells. Candy, sugary and liquory/vinous touches. The yeast puts banana and vanilla aromatic reminiscences; other fruit smells like raisins, figs and plums. Flavor: caramel and semi-toasted malts start, some sweet, with a very intensive yeasty progress. Enough alcoholics hints. Fruity reminiscences like banana, raisins in rum and candy oranges. Light woody notes. Final with liquory dryness and cognac reminiscences. Yeasty and candy aftertaste. Palate: medium body and velvety texture. Medium to high natural carbonation. Remark: beer without the complexity that I hoped, maybe with more age could be a marvelous. An excessive yeasty taste.

Bottle at home ... Lovely scarlet red ... nice firm off white head ... week sweet liquorice nose ... Fizzy slightly tart sour ... definite nip on the tongue as Linus_Stick said ... liquorice in linger ... It foams in the mouth .. which in a lot of ways hides the flavour ... a little grapefruit dryng in linger

A very good and different Belgian strong. Aroma was very weak. Started out as sulfur, but never really came out at all. Near odorless. Pour was perfect. Deep dark red/near brown with lovely sediment and a huge puffy tan head that you could rest a penny on. Taste was very yeasty and bitey. Strong brown sugar, yeast and caramel malt with the sediment lending a smoothness. Strong carbonation that works with the yeast to nip and the tongue and cheeks. Nice beer.

33cl bottle, nice pillowy head. Some bubblegummy esters, mild licorice (anise), dark cane sugar aroma. Rich, sweet malt flavor, bready, brown sugary, licorice/molasses, alcohol wafts through the nostrils. Medium hop bitterness is present, finish is medium duration, some sweetness but dries out at the end. Nice beer but not my ’cup of tea’

Bottle. Pours a murky dark brownish amber with a large lasting bubbly white head. Strong and very sweet aroma of yeast, sugar and caramel malt. The taste is quite sweet as well with a load of candied sugar and enough sourness to make your tongue tingle. Lots of caramel malt along with fruit, yeast and pretty strong alcohol presence. Medium bodied with strong carbonation and a sugary sweet, almost syrupy mouthfeel. I actually prefer this slightly to the Reserve, very nice.

bottle from beersofeurope.co.uk great website with quick service and great range of beer impossible to get in this desert known as glasgow. pours brown hazy with a resistant foamy head. nose is cherry, cheese, slight berry, very sweet smelling, strawberry apple. complex but not very strong. fizzy light mouthfeel. tastes bitter, slightly treebark. strong alcohol warming throughout. maybe too harsh. very good, bu the reserve rules on this.
