COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Reddish brown, hazy yeast, white head.
Complex aroma of fruit, vinous, dark malts, sherry and port aromsa.
Flavour - Complex and enigmatic - dark malts, roasted malt, dark fruits, port, sherry.
High carb. Palate - as main flavour with a hint of sourness. Rich malty fruity finish.
Overall - puzzling but very good. Need to try this one again and do the review properly, but this was the best I could come up with at the time.

Over-carbonated, took two minutes to relieve additional CO2 to prevent gushing! Took another three to pour it properly. That aside foamy cream head with ruby tinged brown body. Tropical pineapple aroma from the yeast. Rich sweet initial malt and pineapple with a strong alcoholic finish. Medium bodies with gentle carbonation. Definitely a sipping beer.

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black to plum in olour with a nice generous head a good amount of which hangs around. The nose is quite Christmasy - dried fruits or more precisely, whole fruit cooked in a cake, plump but sweet in flavour. There is also some soft, aromatic spice, maybe nutmeg. The taste has concentrated plums, black cherries and something on the edge of dark chocolate but not quite there. There’s also a little liquorice and cinammon this time. The palate has a very big structure, a big creamy middle texture and a clean, tangy finish. Overall, this ticks all the boxes for a big dark Belgian Ale.

P: 3/5. hazy medium brown. good amount of lightly-tan head, supported by good carbonation. recedes by about half in a few minutes, no lacing. A: 4/5. boozy. sweet. caramel. raisin. F: 8/10. rich. sweet. caramel. malt. slightly sour pitted fruit. some alcohol, but not strong. M: 4/5. slightly prickly carbonation, but lighter in the mouth than the flavor would lead you to expect. Poured a beautiful brown-ish color. Smelled like malts and fruit. The taste was fairly complex with an interesting finish.
