COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. A dark brown pour with a light tan head and lace. Aroma of brown sugar or molasses I’m not sure. A flavor of brown sugar laced with abv. Carbonation is a bit over the top for me, but the flavor of brown sugar and abv are right down my alley. The complexity goes beyond that but that is where my fried palate cries uncle. A very good beer that I’m glad did not come in a 22ozer or I would be toast.

Mahogani with a fruity aroma of pinneapple and nuts. The flavour starts out a bit acidity and procedes into hazel nuts, coffee and bread. Very nice.

Bottled. Pours a super dark, almost opaque brown. I liked it but could have used a bit more sweetness. Tastes almost wine-ey? MOre age? who knows.

Overflows immediately upon opening, and it takes a good 10 minutes to pour. But it sure looks nice with that tower of foam over the rim of the glass. Smells like an oatmeal raisin cookie, plus some rrum or other alcohol heat. Flavor is a lot of alcohol, plus the aforementioned oatmeal raisin cookie. Lots of intriguing flavors, but the alcohol is persistant, and distracting. Decent now, would like to age one and see what happens.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2009 [Rated 3.18.2008] Pours darker reddish brown with a large foamy beige head that fades into a creamy forth. Delicious malty, woody, toffee aroma. Sweet rich molasses malt, vinous, somewhat tangy/sour with a bitter woody finish. Very lively vacant mouthful, too vacant, detracts from the flavor (smoothes out after 15 minutes of sitting open). Considering how rich the flavor is, I wish it was a little fuller in body. Similar to Pannepot Danish edition. Could definitely use another year + of aging. 9.5.8.4.17 [Rerate 4.17.09] Pours a dull opaque reddish dark brown with a thick frothy beige head 4.5. Fantastic rich malty nutty aroma, slightly vinous. Sweet nutty first taste, very authentically trappist, yesty, darker candi sugar, pretty rich but more towards cloying and sugary, noticeable hops, some citrus like juiciness, woody cheesy finish with a bitter aftertaste 8.5. Medium bodied, slightly chewy, larger abundant fluffy sharp carbonation. "Age me" this says. 9.5.8.4.17
