2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Skinnyviking (5712) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 25, 2007
Bottle. Low brown head. Pretty black body. Aroma of caramel and coffee with vineous notes and a heavy alcohol dominance. Heavily carbonated acidic if not just pain sour. Alcohol and carbonation is killing everything else this bear migh taste of. Coffee maybee ? Cocoa ? Nuts ? Balrey malt ? Nooen will ever know.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ElGaucho56 (394) - USA - AUG 23, 2007
11.2 oz bottle. Pours a lucious dark brown with a garnet tinge when held to light. Forms a microcosm of velvet beige foam which simply never dissipates throughout the beer’s lengthy session. As it slowly warms, it relinquishes notes of treacle, sour raspberries, even a vague melon tinge to the dominant malt sweetness of the nose. On the palate, it is miraculously full-bodied, silky smooth, notes of ginger, brown sugar, red wine, sour fruit, and pleasant yeast bite giving way to mild bitterness and wheat malt profile in a lovely lengthy finish. This one’s a true original (hahaha).

330ml bottle (Kaunis Kampela, Helsinki, Belgian Weeks)
Hazy deep red, tiny head. Sweet malty and, on swirling, very estery aroma. Harsh carbonation - really needs a swirl. Very pleasant rubbery burnt corner to the taste, but pretty sticky. There’s a touch of sourness to the aroma too. Competant belgian, nothing special.

Bottled (Live and Let Live, Cambridge)
Slightly muddy orange with a frothy head. Strong and unsubtle. Very malty but a bit sharp.

Bottle. Hazy orange/copper color with a huge head. Good retention, spare lacing. Aroma of yeast, brown sugar and dark fruit (plums, mostly). Sweet taste with grapes and dark fruit. Somewhat vinous texture. Astringent finish. Complex and tasty.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beershine (4729) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - AUG 18, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2008 Dark, malty, raisin notes. Gingerbread. Cherry. Enthusiastic carbonation but swiftly subsiding head. Perfect palate. Strong and delicious beer that delivers smiles. The alcohol is detectable but integrated. DeDolle rocks.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 NickVega (154) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - AUG 17, 2007
Mixed reviews for one of the worlds top 10 beers. This is a classic. Know it, love it, age it. Had one recently from Bottleworks. Worth $9 - no doubt, but tastes better for $3 in Belgium!
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 barleyPops (1137) - Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA - AUG 15, 2007
well here’s a rating for the "against the grain" category. did not care for this over-carbonated brew. what I could discern through the carbonation was probably a decent mix of sweet fruits and some spicy notes, but this one just didn’t do it for me. thanks to illini08 for sharing.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cajun (180) - Lafayette, Louisiana, USA - AUG 5, 2007
Bottle - Pours dark brown. Sweet aroma, malty, brown sugar, hint of fruit. Rich flavor of roasted malt, caramel, molassess, spice - hops with a bit of sour dough bread. Fermented fruit, like raisins and prunes. Warming alcohol ... ala wine.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bobaidan (446) - Southington, Connecticut, USA - AUG 4, 2007
Pours murky brown with a big head of bigger bubbles that doesn’t last very long. Aroma is sweet with a bit of spice. Flavors consists of dried fruit, alcohol and just a bit of tartness. The finish is roasted coffee flavors. Another winner from De Dolle.

Sam’s Downers Grove
As I slowly open this beer I stop. I can see it’s going to be a gusher. I let some of the excess carbonation free before fully opening it. Oerbier poured with a dark cola looking body. Ruby highlights when held to the light. Strong bursts of carbonation rise through the highlights. Beige head formed on the pour that quickly faded to a ring around the glass.
Unique aromas coming from the depths of this brew. Dark sticky aromas. Rum soaked raisins, figs, dates and brown sugar. Toasted maltiness along with a moderate alcohol spiciness.
Toasted maltiness starts things off. This beer gets much better as it warms. Actually tastes like candi sugar was added to raise the alcohol. Same flavors as in the aroma but melded together to the point where it’s difficult to pick one from the next. Actually finishes with a mild leafy hop bitterness.
High carbonation makes this beer super airy and creamy when it hits the palate. Body is on the lighter side of medium.
This is a solidly drinkable beer. One bottle is good for now but that’s mostly because of the style. Very enjoyable.
Another solid brew from De Dolle. Very unique and interesting. I can’t recall too many BSDAs using candi sugar but maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention.
