The beer pours a dark brown with a white creamy head. There is a decent amount of lacing.
It smells like sweet chocolate, nuts, and malt.
It tastes sweet, hints of chocolate and wood. Not a great beer, but ok.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 18, 2009 bottle. pours a mahogany with a nice big foamy tan head. maybe a little too big. aroma of tangy fruit, wood, dark fruits, grapes. flavor is slightly sweet, tangy, purple grapes. alcohol is well hidden. pretty tasty, neat, and different glennmastrange (870), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cookie, caramel and milk chocolate, light herbs for the hops, moderate yeast note of dough, with date, brown sugar and alcohol in the background. Head is large, fizzy at first but settles down to creamy, off-whie with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is muddy dark brown with a few large particles. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lighly sweet and acidic and faintly bitter. Palate is medium, oily, with a fizzy carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. This is a nice, well rounded Belgian Strong Ale. The richness balances well with the carbonation. 502Flavors (631), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Jul 14, 2009 375 Bottle into snifter (051/502781... whatever that means). Well FUCK me! This goddamned thing gushed all over my fucking couch, table, and carpet (as I rushed to the kitchen to hold it over the sink). I’ve had gushers, but this has been by far the worst. EVERYWHERE! Probably half the bottle left, or less. Oh wait, I just now checked and poured the remnants into my snifter... 1/4 OF A FUCKING BOTTLE left. Waste of my money. I was really looking forward to this one. I Have heard De Dolle is known for gushers (and I have had my fair share of gushers from them before), so sorry fuckers, you’re getting a .5 for this one, despite whatever quality the beer may exhibit. Send me a free bottle and I will re-rate it. Definitely not BUYING this again (I know I am holding what some may consider a silly grudge by doing this, but 7+ dollars per 375 is absurd in itself... but to have 75% of that 375ml gush away and fuck up my couch to boot... fuck that). Ok because of RB’s fascist Low Rating Alert, 1.0 is the lowest I can give this. kopher (309), New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2009 blurry orange-brown, big but quickly receding light beige head.
licorice aroma, a bit artificial, and under that is malt and dark fruit with vanilla and some smoke.
flavor is more fruity and malty, with serious alcohol and dry sweet finish.
very sharp carbonation, a bit of a thin body. evergreen0199 (305), London, Greater London, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Bottle. Murky brown pour with a good beige head on top. Really fruity and spicy aroma. Taste of dark fruit, caramel, very rich, sweet, spice, very Belgian. Smooth drinking, very nice indeed. trevor211 (531), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Pours a muddy reddish brown, with a giant head. Lots of (overripe) fruit esters in the aroma - apple, cherry, grape, and even some peach. Candi sugar and lemon meringue as well. This drinks like an effervescent red wine. Deeper, toastier malts come through in the flavor, along with berries and a bunch of dry hops to offset those fruits. This one’s definitely on steroids - powerful flavor, and the alcohol shows... but somehow I don’t mind it as much in here. Crazy brew - I’m not sure I’d ever want more than a glass, but it’s extremely complex. Good stuff!
