COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

330ml bottle. Clear, deep copper pour with three fingers of tan head that leaves a ton of lace. Very vinous on the nose with some spice and yeast and a whiskey-esque maltiness. Lots of spice and licorice on the palate with poorly masked alcohol that burns a little.

Pours ruby red, with a thick off-white head. Aroma of yeast and anise. Mature caramel background. Nice body, aided by the fine carbonation. Delicious.

Bottle of the 2010. Colour is a hazy reddish-brown with a good sized pale head. Aroma is a of fresh strawberries and caramel. Has a creamy texture and a good blend of sweet and sour flavours with a hint of bitter that lingers on finish - sour cherries, pink grapefruit and brown sugar. Quite enjoyable and I suspect it will age nicely.

Shared bottle at local tasting, thanks to Abemorsten.Pours hazy mahogany with no head at all. Aroma is sour and acidic. Taste is moderate sweet fruits, good malty underneath, maybe this improves with some cellaring.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2011 (Bottle)I broke a brand new Chimay goblets virginity with this and it looked like a Chimay on one of those postcards you send while drinking at the Grand Place in Brusells while your hot girlfriend talks about boring Belgian archtecture and you drink more to ignore here shit .
This stuff may look as classy as cashmere ,but under that g it lacks elegance. The rich malt palate is ostentacious ...bathing drunkenly with fruit esters and fat caramel. A burnt , creamy sensation on the finish -some floral hops try and refresh your palate , but its all too late. This looks great , drinks like a mess -despite a lotta flavours ,not a unity.

08.07.2011. 0,33l Bottle. Vinmonopolet Bergen - Valkendorfsgaten. Dark brown colour with white head. This beer is very lively carbonated. When pouring there is almost only foam in the bottle. But it gets better and this is a very good beer! Strong malty body with strong alcohol. There is also some malty sweetness and some sharp bitterness.

Iced tea color; thick frothy short-lived tan head. Lots of raisin, cherry, etc. Boozy bitterness found in abbey quads. Rather overcarbonated.

6/10/11. 11.2oz bottle. Slightly cloudy red/brown pour with a nice, fluffy tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, and brown sugar. Slightly tart flavor with oak and vinegar on top of chocolate, caramel, and more. Nice!
