COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2015 If you get a chance to visit De Dolle please do so. The folks who run it are very nice and this is on tap there which is excellent. I love the hint of tartness from the Rodenbach yeast and it is tempered by the sweetness. Most Yummy. Sometimes a bit too carbonated for my tastes is only downside. Serving: Bottle and Tap

Bottled: unk (it was cut off most of the bottle), my guess would be early 2014. Pours dark brown with a huge tan top that falls to a persistent quilt. Smells rich with prunes, candi, sweet toasted malts, some yeast. Flavor is malty, some mild musty oxidation, some stone fruits, a touch of almost brett like earthiness, some almost ruby porto character. Lots of depth in this beer, very surprised. medium on full bodied with high carb and a dry finish. Almost tannic in the finish. Im very interested by this beer, might pick a few up to age and see what happens. It is tarts up a bit over two years I would be very, very excited.

My second try with this beer. Ticked it a 2 back then and Im sticking to it. Sweet tobacco, raisin, and caramel smell. Bready taste with a light body. Minimal carbonation. Dry finish. Tastes like it could be a Belgian Double but doesnt have the body. kind of week on the tongue. Would recommend a St. Benardus Abt 12 over this any day.

Schenkt een donkeramberkleurig bier met witte schuimkraag. Ruikt naar mout, gist, gedroogd fruit, kruiden. Smaak is bitterzoet, moutig, gedroogd fruit, hoppig. Een bier die ik wel kan waarderen, maar dat niet iedereen zal bevallen door de zoete en wat kruidige smaak. De nasmaak is bitter en grassig.

Dark brown-reddish color with big beige head. Dark fruits, spices, candied sugar. A bit of tartness still, heavy body and an extremely rich taste. Medium carbonation. This is a serious win. Can compete with the good Abts/Quadrupels. More intensely fruity than these.

33cl bottle at home. Clear amber with a small white soapy head. Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Caramel, malts, brown sugar, ripe fruits, spices and warming alcohol. A tasty strong ale.

In bottiglia da 33cl. Colore bruno, schiuma fine, molto abbondante e persistente. Aroma di frutta secca, uvetta, nocciola. Al palato una nota calda ed etilica evidente con sentori di frutta secca, uvetta, leggero caramello. Finale che bilancia la dolcezza generale della birra.
