COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

If you get a chance to visit De Dolle please do so. The folks who run it are very nice and this is on tap there which is excellent. I love the hint of tartness from the Rodenbach yeast and it is tempered by the sweetness. Most Yummy. Sometimes a bit too carbonated for my tastes is only downside. Serving: Bottle and Tap

On tap at the Thirsty Monk (AVL). Deep red-amber body with a small head. Interesting and appealing aroma; hints of brandy, wine and vague ripe fruits. Mild and subtle alcohol esters for 12% ABV. Flavor. Fruity; slightly tartness with a touch of sweetness and bitterness. Moderately strong and mildly funky flavor seems to reflect red wine barrel aging.

Bottle from CBX. Chestnut pour with a frothy white head. Aroma of brown sugar, roasted nuts, candy sugars, figs and grapes, with notes of spices and yeast. Effervescent body with the sweeter notes hit the front with roasted nuts, toasted bread, candy sugars, dark fruits mid palate and finishing off with touches of spice. Mmmmm.

Bottle. Reddish brown with creamy beige head. Fruity bready aroma and a hint of spice. Initial taste quite sweet becoming slightly acidic and sour with a refreshing bitter finish. Full carbonation and mouthfeel. Decent.

23 year old 1991 vintage bottle at Akkurat Stockholm, april 19th 2014. Deep red body, unclear, with a small beige head. Aroma of berries, branch, moss, yeast. Taste is lightly sour with plums, roast, wood, nuts. Deep complexity, sweet raisin and yeast aftertaste. Really nice.

Bottle. Mahogany-brown with a large and lasting tan head. The aroma is of yeast, caramel malt, fruity (plums, something sweet like dates or prunes). It has too much carbonation for our liking. The flavour has smooth malts, chocolate, fruits, distinct yeast with a lightly acidic finish, some bitterness.

Bottle. Dark ruby/mahogany with a thick eggshell colored head. Aroma is bread crusts and construction paper. Taste has lots of caramel and apple but is badly oxidized. Bottle is about a year old and didn't hold up well. Substantial booze. Rich mouthfeel and strong carb. Will look for a fresher bottle because this one unfortunately didn't work out.

Bought this bottle at de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer has a dark brown color and a nice cream colored head with a lot of bubbles. The aroma is very fruity and also has tones of yeast, bread and, licorice and candy. The taste is fruity and start to evoluate into a nice freshness and little sourness in which the tones from the aroma come clearly forward. This makes this beer well balanced. The finish is light sour and a has a medium bitterness, noticable for a while. Bravo to this beer, one of the better strong ales Ive tasted so far.
