COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

This one climbed out of the 33 cl bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Rich, dark yeast and fruit aromas. Spicey. Dark mahogany color with an active tan head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Something like a light oporto flavor with heavy bread. Yeast spice all over with notes of raisin and prune. Not to mention caramel. Finish has some oak hints, and is rather surprisingly dry. Very pleasurable concoction.

Cloudy red/brown coloured. Malts and spices (coriander) in the nose. Notes of alcahol, but not much. Flovour is complex and acidic. Malts, spices and fruity accents in the flavour. Wellbalanced. Slightly bitter in the aftertaste. Definately a good beer.

This beer rocks! The aroma is malty, acrid and yeasty with notes of dark bread, caramel, herbs, spices, bananas, apples, alcohol and raisins. Yes, it’s a bit complex and very interesting. Sparkling clear deep amber hue with a huge, creamy/rocky off-white head. Mostly lasting with excellent lacing. The flavor is very malty, slightly sweet, tart and acidic up front. Tangy, acidic and modestly bitter with a warm alcohol presence on the backside. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation and a long, acidic, lightly pungent, dry finish. Damp fescue at the wee end. Great Belgian ale! A must try!

imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 26, 2008
Bottled, 330ml aged 6 years. A beer saved for Christmas afternoon. Bronze with white head. The stuff of legends, this ages into a smooth, rich alcoholic mixture, the condition is still great, the spices have amalgamated into an ember glow instead of being aflame. There is a rich Porty feel to it, warming and delicious. Perfect for after dinner relaxing mode.

MoritzF (7402) - Bochum, GERMANY - DEC 24, 2005
(bottle) Hazy amber colour with a frothy tanned medium head. Vinous, sweet tastmalty aroma with caramel, yeasts and a dense sourish note. Sweet flavour, medium to full body, crispy mouthfeel. Initially sweet toastmalty with caramel and yeasts, dried fruits (plums, raisins), sugary sweet but harmonic malty finish with peppery spices, with slightly tart and bitter hoppy notes. The alcohol is strong but well integrated and warming. Aromatic and tasty brew.

cloudy amber colour, fine lace, complex aroma: cherry, apple, slightly smoked; sweet flavor, great complex aftertaste (with a hint of cherry) - a monument !

Bottle. Poured reddish brown color with a huge fizzy head that lasted with excellent lacing. Complex dark fruit and yeasty aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium fruity balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.

pivnizub (7236) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - JUN 4, 2006
Bottle (thanks to the semi-franconian bierkoning !) Hazy, mid-sized creamy off-white head; distinctive fruity, a bit vinous nose; sweet flavour, full bodied; drier, a bit chocolatey finish with a distinctive bitterness in the aftertaste. A well made, full flavoured brew !

a sim rate: A glorious ale. The head disappeared very quickly, but I didn’t mind at all once I started drinking. The aroma is very sweet and fruity with an almost marzipan scent. The flavour is full and has a bit of a wine tartness and a vicious-yet-woody aftertaste. Great great beer.

Bottled at the Brugse Beertje, Bruges, September 2003. This was about the tenth beer that I had in the Brugse Beertje, one of the great beer bars of Belgium, so all I can decipher from my notes is "a bit special". I will re-rate in a more sober state when I get the chance. According to Tim Webb, the style has changed from a sour Flemish brown style to something more akin to an abbey style beer . If you scroll through all the tasting notes, that change comes through quite clearly.
