Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Poured into tulip a brown color with decent off white head. One of the most interesting beers I have had, very complex. Aroma for me was roasted malts, some nut, wood, wine, all together it had an aroma similar to a good brewed soy sauce. Taste was similar to the aroma. the beer was yeasty and had a port or sherry flavor. Alcohol for me came late in the finish and was warming to some extant. The alcohol seemed well blended till that point. I get some soy sauce also in the finish. Med bodied and quite wet, a little too easy to drink, like that is a problem. Incredible.

Problem of not taking notes during the session. Will have to try it again and do a "proper tasting"

Not too much aroma, but generally yeasty. Lots of phenols in the taste, some bitter and a touch of sour notes, grapefruit, citrus peel. Starts sweet, finishes bitter and boozy. Lot of alcohol taste. I wasn’t super impressed.

Pours opaque dark brown, nearly black, with a gigantic three-finger beige head that lasts a long time. Thin layer of fine yeast sediment is present at the bottom. With that huge head, it brings aromas of fresh apples (honeycrisp), baking spice, roasted malts, & some caramel. Arrives spicy with a mixture of apples (sweet and tart). Malty & roasty middle. Finishes candy sweet (chocolate/caramel) and of course with a kick of alcohol. Lively on the palate without carbonation taking over; medium-bodied, finished long, and surprisingly hot with alcohol at 9%. It doesn’t hide the ABV that well and certainly tastes/feels like it’s in the range of 12-13%.

Bottle. Solid malty sweetness, burned sugar, caramel, dried fruits, light vinous aroma, alcohol prezent but it is mellowed and quite pleasant. Full body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Finish is sweetish and bit alcoholic.

Draft. Orange/pineapple, caramel malt, and light hay aroma. Golden yellow with nice head. Very sweet orange/pineapple, caramel malt, and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice body and balance. Excellent - not sure how I missed this for so long.

Tap into a wineglass showing red wine with a finger of clean white foam. The nose is tart and acetic with hints of blackberries. The palate is lightly carbonated and medium bodied. Very light flavors of dark fruit (plums, blackberries, cassis) and a light bitterness on the finish.
