COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Bottle courtesy BelgianBeerGal. Pours a murky brown color with a tannish head. Aroma is woody, aged and slightly tart. Sour raisins on the nose. Flavor is tart fruit, sharp yeast and aged notes. Big alcohol burn towards the end. Sharp.

Totally opaque brown color with a nice creamy tan head. Smells like rusted iron or blood which isn’t so hot, but it tastes pretty good with a nice twist -- kind of corky, woody and bitter.

Donkerbruin, snel verdwijnende kraag die als een randje aanwezig blijft. Ruikt zoetzurig. Medium body. Smaakt zoetzuurbitter. Niet zo geweldig.

Not a very memorable beer. Deep, dark brown with a nice creamy head and dark fruit aroma. Fizzy and malty, with a strong warming characteristic that coincides with the prevalent alcohol taste. Medium-bodied with a weak nose, alcohol is the dominant feature.

well here’s a rating for the "against the grain" category. did not care for this over-carbonated brew. what I could discern through the carbonation was probably a decent mix of sweet fruits and some spicy notes, but this one just didn’t do it for me. thanks to illini08 for sharing.

The aroma offered by this beer is an infusion of yeast, dates, and alcohol. It is a light cocoa colored solution that sits under a thick off-white head. This beer is heavy and thick as it enters the mouth. The taste is a combination of wheat, dates, yeast, nuts, and citrus fruit hidden in the background. The aftertaste is a mild nutty one that lingers well.

Bottle picked up in Plainfield, IL; shared with Duane. This is a pretty typical overcarbonated Belgian brew. Some fruity and spicy notes lurking around somewhere underneath all of the carbonation. I split this small bottle with my Dad and I didn’t even bother finishing my share of the bottle. Just not my style at all...

Bottle...nice lacing...dainty but present...cloudy brown body with a tan head that has a dark tone to it...sweet yeast and a touch of cherries in the nose...initial mouth feel sweet, but the sugars seem real hearty--almost like brown sugar...a tartness to entire presence of this brew--light yet complex...I can dig it ...a little one dimensional , but good

gnoff (5004) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - AUG 18, 2006
(33 cl bottle at The Rover, Gothenburg, Sweden) Shady dark brown color, huge and lasting tan head. Head is mostly bubbles, but creamy on top. Very fresh estry scent, no hints of the high alcohol level. Strong Belgian ale turning a bit vineous taste, a bit sour with low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel.
