UPDATED: NOV 23, 2007 Hazy dark ruby with a large off-white head. Another very yeasty beer from De Dolle. Very fruity character (wild berries, strawberries), candy and liquorice and cream caramel dessert. Some oak a little sourness touch in there too. Another reason why De Dolle is one of my favourite brewery. I had it on tap at the brewery and served by the brewer himself. I felt like a groupie with a back-stage pass to the Mötley Crüe dressing room… without the dirty sex part.

Wow, another masterpiece by De Dolle. Nutmeg and sour apples in the nose. Very lively carbonation that fills up the body. Pours thicker than most imperial stouts and looks beautifully like impenetrable shoe polish in the glass. Tastes very fruity, very rotten-citrus spicy. Absolutely fantastic.

(.33cl bottle) Pours a chocolate color with thick tan head. The carbonation is huge. I did pour the sediment rather than leaving the sediment in a separate glass. Incredible aroma of yeast and bread. Nice caramel flavor with chocolate tones and ripe bananas. Slight sourness at the end. Very complex beer that leaves you licking your lips. This is a great beer!

Wow. Really enjoyed this beer. Malty and sour. More fruity then the Arabier. Love the sour and carbonation mix. Hard to tell if I am tasting a hint of chocolate or caramel. De Dolle makes great beers.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2005 Tight, white head, tops a brown body. Nose is a tad astringent, with dark fruit overtones. A touch sweet, with date and raisin flavors and a hint of chocolate. Nice mouthfeel, coating but not cloying. The slight sweetness stays with you through the finish. overall an excellent experience!

This is quickly becoming my favorite beer. It should almost be classified as a sour ale. Pours reddish brown with a thin head quickly diminshing. Smells like citrus and cherries. The taste is sweet up front like so many belgian strong ales but that fades quickly into a flemish sour style finish. It lingers on your tounge and only disappears afrer I eat a square of dark chocolate. I have not gone wrong with de dolle yet. Also quite a deal at Knightly for 3.99 a bottle

cloudy amber colour, fine lace, complex aroma: cherry, apple, slightly smoked; sweet flavor, great complex aftertaste (with a hint of cherry) - a monument !
4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Nate (3326) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 29, 2003
Nice bouquet. Malts, brown or candy sugar, plums. Light spicy hops. Cloudy copper-brown with big foamy off-white lacing head. Heavy watery body with med-light carb. Great taste. Sweet throughout, especially to start. Brown sugar, alcohol, candied fig & vanilla. Finish is bitter & just right. Fruity vaporous & light bitter after but not cloying. This is a very good beer.

Pours a beautiful reddish amber with a massive foamy tan head that never seems to end. Aroma is insane fruitiness. Insane! Apples, plums, nectarines, vinous malt, citrus notes, and caramelized esters abound. Wow. This smells good. Taste has some sweet notes of toffee, and caramel, but is dominated by the intense bouqet of fruity esters. While they do not taste as good as they smell, there is nothing to complain about. This beer is right on the mark. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with lively carbonation and the light wispy character that’s only present in the very best Belgian ales. I did note a minor hint of alcohol, this beer could have benefited from a few additional months of aging. That said, De Dolle is an incredible brewery, and they may have just become my new favorite.

Wonderful earthy aroma with hints of plum, tart cherries, candy and brown sugars and chocolate. Pour is decidedly big-headed... massive frothy tan head covers a deep brown body. Flavor is wonderful. Almost like a chocolate-covered cherry in its mixture of heavy sweet malt tones and the tart fruitiness that lies underneath, blended to perfection. There is no deception here and what you smell is very similar to what you get.
