COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Wonderful earthy aroma with hints of plum, tart cherries, candy and brown sugars and chocolate. Pour is decidedly big-headed... massive frothy tan head covers a deep brown body. Flavor is wonderful. Almost like a chocolate-covered cherry in its mixture of heavy sweet malt tones and the tart fruitiness that lies underneath, blended to perfection. There is no deception here and what you smell is very similar to what you get.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2005 Tight, white head, tops a brown body. Nose is a tad astringent, with dark fruit overtones. A touch sweet, with date and raisin flavors and a hint of chocolate. Nice mouthfeel, coating but not cloying. The slight sweetness stays with you through the finish. overall an excellent experience!

This is quickly becoming my favorite beer. It should almost be classified as a sour ale. Pours reddish brown with a thin head quickly diminshing. Smells like citrus and cherries. The taste is sweet up front like so many belgian strong ales but that fades quickly into a flemish sour style finish. It lingers on your tounge and only disappears afrer I eat a square of dark chocolate. I have not gone wrong with de dolle yet. Also quite a deal at Knightly for 3.99 a bottle

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2011 It is impossible, I feel, to judge a good quality beer adequately if one has only tried it once. And absurd to even attempt to do it. But when will I be able to taste this again?

Bottle, 33 cl. I know this beer more than 20 years. But now taste this for rating. (first time this year i’ll drink it). Brown color, with a big, beige head. Aroma dark malts and dark fruits, light sweet. Full body. Taste is complex but great. Dark fruits, caramel, candy sugar, acoholic. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a nice rich palate.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2007 One of my faves, not sure why I haven’t rated it yet. Tan head sits pretty atop an impenetrably dark brown body. Sharp aroma of old, soured apple juice and red wine. The sour, fruity flavor includes some corked wine and develops dryness as it develops. Soda-pop mouthfeel. Finish is a nice balance of hops and alcohol, which are both hiding until then. Hooray for De Dolle.... RE-RATED after many repeat drinkings and months of making sure there were always some in the cellar. The sour cherries, those vinous notes, that perfect dusting of bitterness... So many breweries now are aging things in oak or trying other fancy tricks, and most of the results pale in comparison to the complexity of this simply made beer.

Very dark, with enormous head. Sweet and rich aroma. Flavor is similar to, and basically just as good as, a Rochefort 10. Yes!

Taste: fuirty, cherries, chocolate, caramel, toffee. Aftertaste: caramel, spices, mocha even coffee. Warming alcohol in the throat. Lovely beer!

Appear. Center-poured into a tulip glass. Holy head. We will be waiting to pour more. Waiting... Head is huge! (twss) Beer is a cloudy light brown/honey brown, Killer retention. Head is full of fat bulbs (expected tight finer carbonation) Aroma. Light wheat toast notes with hints of dark fruits, faint though, falls on the back of nose. Think’n I smell champagne yeast. Taste. Good. This is a good beer. The alcohol is big but crucial in cutting the apparent sweetness. Well balanced flavor profile. Bread/toast qualities emerge with notes of sweetness. Hops tingle only the edges of the palate. Champagne yeast becomes more apparent, giving a big beer a much softer delivery. Palate. Complex, Intriguing. Yeast definitly compliments style. Lighter and crisper than expected. Overall. Very drinkable, Probably too drinkable at 9% abv. A new fav! Thanks Mike!

Porządne mocne Ale belgijskie. Ciemny machoniowy kolor z bordowymi refleksami. Spory i mocny kożuch gęstej piany tworzy się błyskawicznie i utrzymuje się do końca picia. W smaku jest drożdżowe i owocowo-wytrawne. Trochę przeszkadza zbyt intensywna woń alkocholowa. W przełyku rozgrzewa
