grandridge (169), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA May 10, 2008 Pours murky brown with large white head. Looks really good in my trappists glass. Fruity, sweet, caramel notes in the aroma. A quality brew well balanced in flavor and not to overpowering. I can see that this will turn to a wine with some age. I can taste a wine/wood with a tart aftertaste that makes me want more.
elihapa (377), Hawaii, USA Nov 20, 2008 11/6/08 notes: bottle. Pours pink-ruby, with a huge fluffy head. Pretty serious lacing as well. Aroma is sweet and tart simultaneously, cherries, green apple, strawberries, and candy. Initial flavor is filled with lively sweet fruit, which is accentuated by the pearly carbonation. Mid-palate mellows to reveal a complexity of chocolate, malt, and perhaps some nutmeg. Oerbier finishes very long and sticky, an extended sweet note that also reveals wood, and alcohol. Overall, this was a fun beer to drink. It has a beautiful pour and aroma, for one. cmillward (228), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep slightly ruddy brown with a fairly massive and thick tan head. Laces the glass nicely in sheets. Just gorgeous beer. The nose is fantastic big upfront plum, fruit, some caramel, yeast aromas of bubblegum, cherry. Medium-sweet fruity caramel flavor. Very vinous, with slightly tannic fruit, some brown sugar, alcohol comes out only as it finally reaches room temperature. Very quaffable, lush carbonation and slightly dry mouthfeel, a nice bit of acidity. Great beer. wkalle (9), Sweden does not count Oct 27, 2008 Bottle, pours dark brown with a huge frothy off-white head. Aroma of caramel and fruits and some citrusy hoppy notes. The beer is well carbonated and has lots of flavor and a long lasting finish. A Really nice beer. oldrtybastrd (1793), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Oct 20, 2008 Picked up at Maruhn Getränke in Darmstadt. Pours a hazy medium orangish amber color. Aroma is lightly malty, hoppy, yeasty, with a touch of fruit. Flavor is a nice mixture of malts and fruits. CapnJazz (20), Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 15, 2008 12 oz bottle. Had this after the oerbier reserva, I probably went in the wrong order. Completely different beer from the Reserva. Kind of hard to describe all the nuances, but there’s defintiely brown sugar, sugars almost like rum, yeast, a slight sour kick at the end. Doesn’t have the weird nuances of the reserva, but I suppose it’s not supposed to. Kind of alcoholic as it warms, really a rich, warm, tasty brew.
