COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. Brown colour, very good creamy head. Fruity aroma (peach and apricots). The flavour is pleasantly sweet with caramel, raisins, apricots, pineapple and apple traces. The finish is quite spicy and alcoholic. Great complexity but not perfectly balanced.

Bottle. Beer Stop, Dronfield. Hazy, dark ginger colour. Film, and ring of beige head. Nose has baked brown sugar. Sweet fruits, dates and such. Light tang of vine fruits. Taste is fruity sweet. Some tangy bitterness. Doesn’t feel the ABV. Way too much fizz, for me. Finish is tangy, lasting, fruity bitter.

Bottle at home (from Alus Celle Riga). Aroma: fancy caramel, sweet, bread, malty, a little spicy, fruit notes. Really nice. Golden-amber with big grey-ish head color. Something very familiar from glass, but I can’t remember. Body is creamy, caramel, quite thick, ethereal. Medium sweet (a bit more). Tart and some medicine notes in the finish. Amazing.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2016 33cl bottle, served in tulip glass. Poured a chestnutty red brown with a huge 4 finger ivory head. Waited a while for the head to dissipate to get to the aroma. Aromas of cherries, malty sweetness, apple, and later when getting more to room temperature the aromas keep developing, there is chocolate with dark fruits and raisins and plums. Taste is amazing! Cherries, vanilla, caramel, apricots, apple pie, toasted bread with jam, plums, raisins, molasses, licorice. Very vinous. Sour but not overwhelming. And it gets even better when getting more to room temperature. Awesome what’s going on in my mouth here! The malty sweetness is kicking in with chocolate, coffee and tart now...WOW! What a complex brew this is, it keeps on developing. It’s hard to believe with what I’m drinking right now that Oerbier tasted even better with the Rodenbach yeast in the past so now I got to taste some of these earlier brews as a comparison. I am going to follow up the brewers advice and cellar a lot of these and enjoy one every year to mark its development over the years. Overall a sensational brew, a full body with a slightly dry, creamy, sticky tart finish. Bravo Dolle Brouwers!! And thank you for the experience...

Pale yellow color. Nice white medium head. Flowery aroma. Hints of yeast. A bit caramelly at first. Bitter in the middle. Bitter, even herbal finish. Very well balanced, medium carbonated, well drinable, rather medium bodied beer, but stil light then considering the abv.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2016 dark, murky brown beer, with plenty of beige foam. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruit and vanilla. Brett some fresh yeast. creamy on the palate, with malty taste with hints of molasses, candy, cake, again dark fruit, ripe plums spices and yeast. Something dry and sour at the end, with some connotation of red wine. In fact there is a special edition wine aged in barrels of Bordeaux. Alcohol well integrated.
