Commercial Description:
Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. For more information on Oerbier's recent recipe history, see the following article: http://www.bunitedint.com/Products/de_dolle/oerbier-re_evolution.html

Very nice brew. Pours a deep brownish red. Lots of aroms going on...yeast, malt, earth, wood, vanilla, even some fruit. Texture is damn near perfect. Flavor is deeply complex. Lots of dark fruit and wood, with just a touch of bitterness. Smooth and way too drinkable.

330mL bottle from Regional. Pours a deep red/orange with a dark off white head. Fizzed up like a Duvel! Aroma is quite fruity, some yeast and a lot of spice are there as well. Strong flavour, initially fruity. Fades to some spice, plums, chocolate and more I can’t decipher. Let’s just say it’s a highly complex flavour – and I love it! Highly palatable for a 9% ABV beer. Finish is long, chocolaty, fruity and dry. Very nice.

12 oz bottle. Poured a cloudy reddish brown color with a small off white head. Aroma was very complex. Notes of cherries, toffee, yeast, dark fruits and some caramel. Flavor was very fruity. Cherries and other dark fruits dominate the flavor. The finish was very dry. I really enjoyed this beer, compared to the Reserva. This was a lot more balanced it seemed, and a lot less balsamic.

33cl bottle, BBE 05/09. Very dark ruby, smallish beige head. The insanely deep aroma is earth and yeast, berries, cherries, slight soy sauce , liquorice toffee, coffee, roasted sugary malts and leather. Many rhymes in there. Same vinous tinge in the flavor, cherry, earth, lotsa liquorice. Dry and herbal finish, with a little tannic gooseberry. Great sourness, so complex but balanced. Medium bodied, sadly a bit over carbonated palate. Freakin fabulous beer anyway.
