Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. De Dolle Oerbier Deep hazy brown with a thick tan head and good retention. Aroma is boozy with a thick maltiness and a funky spice note. Seems to have a lot of wine on the nose (barrel) Flavor is wine like with a smooth malt character. Raisins and bubbles with more of the red wine tartness. Not overpowering, but definitely there.

Bottle. Fresh strawberries in the nose. Hazy garnet under an eternal, rocky, tan cover. Extremely fruity estery flavour that is slightly medicinal. Accents of strawberry, white grape, and stone fruit ending with a moderate to medium, dry, Belgian bitterness. Medium body, smooth and warming. Unique.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought from a colleague. Hazy dark brown with a big off-white head. Malty aroma with lots of dark fruits and some caramel and Belgian yeast. Taste is bittersweet. Body is massive but due to the very lively carbonation it is experienced lighter than all those heavy abts. Warming alcohol in the finish. Great Belgian beer.

poured from a bottle. This beer has a firm tartness to it. Some caramel notes as well as a fruitiness and slight earthy character. Not bad.

Bottle. Some low gushing at opening, pours in hazy dark body with high froasty off-white head. Aroma has caramel, nutty, roasty, yeasty. Taste has an alcohol character upfront, dark forest fruits, dried raisins, very light roasty. Bitterness is earthy and pretty low and hidden, overwhelmed with alcohol. Body is full, high carbonation.

33cl in teku. Pours a super abundant and super creamy off-white head, orange beige like; dark orange to mahogany brown colour, dirty and hazy. Smells quite incredible: toffee, lovely yeast notes, dried fruits, caramel, butter-ish, brown/cane sugar, gorgeously wrapping and intense. Tastes caramel malty, candied fruit, earthy, hints of licorice and chocolate, seems like a creme caramèl in a glass; sweetness is medium to high but never invasive, also cause is such balanced by a subtle but almost medium level bitterness; light tarness hints. Medium to full body, average carbonation which is right enough, creamy texture. Another awesome de Dolle, a mix between a dark and blonde belgian strong ale, gets the best notes from both worlds. Lovely ; )

1987 (Rodenbach yeast) vs 2014 at Kulminator in Antwerp-Belgium, bottles. The 1987 is stunning and amazingly in shape after 28 years. Pours dark amber with bright reddish appearance, nice and still performing off white foam. Nose: the warmest malty nose ever, light dry fruit, lovely feel of wood, cherries. Cherries are there, lovely feel. Mouth: God! I love this (mortlach come here right now!). Cherry juice, apple, warm feel embracing your chest! I am in shock! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled: unk (it was cut off most of the bottle), my guess would be early 2014. Pours dark brown with a huge tan top that falls to a persistent quilt. Smells rich with prunes, candi, sweet toasted malts, some yeast. Flavor is malty, some mild musty oxidation, some stone fruits, a touch of almost brett like earthiness, some almost ruby porto character. Lots of depth in this beer, very surprised. medium on full bodied with high carb and a dry finish. Almost tannic in the finish. I’m very interested by this beer, might pick a few up to age and see what happens. It is tarts up a bit over two years I would be very, very excited.

My second try with this beer. Ticked it a 2 back then and I’m sticking to it. Sweet tobacco, raisin, and caramel smell. Bready taste with a light body. Minimal carbonation. Dry finish. Tastes like it could be a Belgian Double but doesn’t have the body. kind of week on the tongue. Would recommend a St. Benardus Abt 12 over this any day.
