4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - SEP 8, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2005 2000,Corked bottle:Cork explodes off as soon as the cage is turned twice. Penny colored liquid.DENSE,HUGE,head.Delicate aromas(grass, oak, mustiness,). Palate is spritzy, oily, and full.Flavors are balanced to the point of being breathtaking.Sweet and sour mouthfeel are binded perfectly.Caramel, grape, wood, biscuit, and sour flavors.Finish is lightly acidic and has a earthy, sweetness also.Constant bubbles rising to the top.Head subsides til later pours, but doesn’t go away. After yeast pour, got some delicate, spicy, hops in finsh also. This just gets better and better more I drink.Second yeast pour actually, made the sweet flavors more evident because the mustiness hid the sourness a bit.Like my buddy said, serious beer for Belgian beer fans. This would appeal to anyone IMO.Highly recommended.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - SEP 5, 2002
Due to the long drive from the neighborhood take-home tap house, thus incurring agitation and distress to the beer, the cork popped off like a bomb without assistance. The foam was inevitable: Mountainous and rocky with stellar stick power. Amazing aroma iron, rust, mustiness, and cherry fruitiness. Bordeaux barrel aging is very apparent in the firm feel. Flavors of rust and acid. Finishes astringently and dryish as one is able to imagine. Although this has been aging for some time and the yeast has gone bad, I still found the yeast very tolerable throughout the drink. Too bad I drank this without recording proper notes. This is a serious beer for Belgianheads.

Orange coloured, pours extremely lively with rich, firm head. Acidic near lambic-ish aroma. Oaky and balsamic, extremely drinkable for an 8% ale. Balanced and immensly flavourful.
5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Ernest (5184) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 15, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2004 October 2000 bottle. Head is initially huge, frothy, rocky, off-white,
excellent lacing, fully lasting. Body is murky dark amber, dense
particles of all sizes, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty
(caramel, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), moderately yeasty (cobwebs,
barnyard), with notes of toffee, orange, cherry, licorice, clove, cask
wood, and sugar, hints of vinegar and alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, heavily
acidic. Finish is moderately acidic, moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Medium body, velvety
texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic, lightly astringent.
This is the best Flanders sour ale I’ve ever had by FAR, and I’ve sampled a lot (all of the top five here, and many more). The only problem is this was only made once. But yes, this is now a 5.0 beer for me. Imagine that, over 4 years after it was bottled and still absolutely incredible.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 30, 2002
Very yeasty and malty aroma, sweet start, bitter, slightly sour finish, quite yeasty aswell, which threw me off it a bit, but given the aroma, it was better than i expected.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 heykevin (1269) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - JUL 14, 2002
Definitely a gusher. Near refrigerator temp it just one dimensionally sour, but as it warmed up it got much better, with cinnamon and liquorice. Decent.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 DavefromChicago (201) - Illinois, USA - JUN 14, 2002
Using a Rodenbach flute, I had the damndest time trying to get a full glass - pour, skim head, pour some more, skim, drink, etc. Of course waiting for the huge rocky head to subside gave the sediment which coated the side of the bottle, time to settle in the bottle. A beautifully, rustic, sour red ale. Bottled in 2000. Aroma of bread,/yeast, fruit and acetic acid. Nice reddish-gold oily appearance. Tart, woody, hints of cherry. Very refreshing and drinkable, Rodenbach fans should love.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Schroppfy (2328) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - APR 20, 2002
More thin-bodied than the Duchesse de B. Nice Flanders red saved for No. 200.
