4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (750 ml). From pandableh or Alefish who both sent me bottle(s), thanks! Clear golden/amber with a small white head with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma is really winey with green apple (not off though), oak/wood, buttery notes, sweetness and alcohol. Taste is also of wine, moderate sweetness, green apple, wood, light vanilla, fruits and boozy notes. Medium body (lighter than expected). Moderate carbonation. Winey mouthfeel. Super complex. Balance is good, but I think it will become great with a little more age on it. Unique. I’m glad I still have another bottle of this.

Big thanks for beerman6686 Dan for sharing this one. Had this at the RB Pgh Halloween Spook-tacular Tasting/Drunkfest fall 2013, nice time at Hornydevil’s place, thanks James & Michelle! From a champagne bottle this stuff is clear light brownish with a tad of yellow. Soome mild hop aroma in there too. The first taste is a big strong blast with hints of tartness. Almost like tart wine, interesting. Warming. Must be pretty high in alky. Yes warming all the way down. Perhaps a brandy effect going on here. Finish is quite alky. Mouth coating and just a little too much for this lager lover. Did I say this was strong? After a while, this wine like brandy thing that is a little tart starts to grow on you.

Bottle. Clear amber gold pour with thin bubbly white head. Rich brandy aroma, tart red fruits, cherries, very winey overall, with strong woody, boozy notes and a hint of mulled wine. Flavor is sweet but also quite tart, like red wine, fruity with a warming boozy finish. Body is light and balanced, quite dry actually, light carbonation, very brandy-like. Absolutely delicious, very original.

This one poured a somewhat murky light brown with a small beige head. Aroma of wine, dark fruit, light chocolate, some Belgian spice too. Flavor was similar, big Belgian strong notes, dates, toast, wine, booze, yeast. Interesting for sure.

Bottle trade in Amsterdam. Holy crap this is a big busy beer. There is a lot going on here. I some sour tartness; I get lots of acid bite; I get a dose of booze from the barrels; I even get some earthiness from the cork. I have no idea how this is so drinkable, especially considering the 12ABV. This is definitely something to be savored.

Pours a clear orange with white head. Wine like in the taste and aroma. Slight tartness. Very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
25.4 oz bottle. My 200th rated Belgian brew! Clearish brown with clingy froth. Nose is red wine, toffee, candied plum, wood and apricot. Slightly sticky, slick and oily with a dull tang. Taste is also dominated by the wine barrel. Certainly more tart than sweet with apple, chianti, toffee, wood and earthy sour cherry.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer is straight killing it. Aroma is red wine, french oak, spicy cloves and cinnamon, light banana and black pepper. Taste is medium sweet with very light tartness on the back end. Inviting complex and insanely good. The most balanced 12% beer ever? Oerbier Reserva might be the only competition. De Dolle is Win.

Bottle at t’ Brugs Beertje, thanks to Joris. Funky, tangy fruit nose, orange and pear, wine, barrel. Very tangy and winy, and obviously sour. Lovely orange-amber color, glowing nicely, with lace. Tangy, funky flavor, orange, apple, grape, light dry malts. Tangy, but not acidic or overly sour. Amazing. The wine character comes out very nicely, as does the wood. There is some yogurt-lactic character too. One of the best. Really good.
