4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(bottle) pours a slightly hazy deep golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of light gooseberries, butterscotch, balsamic and apple vinegar, vanilla, caramel and a hint of acetone. flavour is mostly the same, though very complex, slightly oxidized and sweet, with lots of honey, some bretty funk, a medium sweetness and a slightly tart finish. medium to heavy-bodied with soft carbonation. truly an excellent beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a golden beer with a good white head. Smells sour and a bit lime. A big mix of sweet and sour tastes. Not really balanced in my opinion.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled @ RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Loads of wood, red wine, slight spicy yeast, caramel. Bit apply. Barrel aging gives a lot of extra to the base beer, which is actually a bit overpowered by the barrel. Very sirupy. Big sipper. Wonderful stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Torst, Brooklyn, 750ml ($70): I saw someone ordering this and asked for a sample; that person gave it to me. Anyway, it pours copper with very little head. Aroma is yeast, wine, grapes, yeast, wood, and some other fancy stuff. Taste has warming alcohol, but really warming (not abrasive like Urthel Samaranth). Complex in a way every different from Stille Nacht normal, which is a beer that I remember very well despite all the years. The barrel aging takes over in some sense, but the beer keeps its unique characteristics. The power of the yeast is diminished some as the vinous traits take over, but they replace one good thing with another. This was a pleasure to drink even though I had a relatively small sample. That being said, I think I prefer the non-barrel-aged version.

Bottle at the Kulminator, Antwerp. Poured a hazy golden brown with a thin white head. The aroma is rich fruity and with toffee and caramel. The flavour is rich, medium sweet, a little alcoholic and yeasty. The palate was really smooth and the finish rich, full of flavour and long-lasting.
