4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Kerstbierfestival 2006, Essen. Clear, deep golden colour with a small head. Big aroma of alcohol and vanilla oakiness. Flavours are more complex with oaky vanilla meeting fruit, yoghurt, ending on a dry woody note. A world-class beer, no doubt.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 5, 2007 Re-rate, 11/3/07. Shared bottle at Kulminator. Sooooo glad I tried this again. I found much more balance in this one, thanks to the wood, and it makes me wonder if even rated the right beer last time. The sweet honey, citrus and cider character are pulled into check by that tart, splintery barrel effect. Lovely orange-gold color with some lasting white bubbles on top. Medium to full body, lively, dryish. The nose was not as intense as it might have been considering that incredible flavor. A truly great beer anyway.
Previous score: 7/3/6/4/13. From bottle at Kerstbierfestival. Allegedly lemony and more tart than the normal Stille Nacht... I must disagree. Mine was sweeter, almost like a sauterne, like a citrused honey mead. Wish I had some foie gras handy. Notable alcohol on finish. Sticky sweet.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is hazed dark golden amber with a thin off white head...smell is yeast, bubble gum, some faint sourness, bitter funk and dirt, some apple and green fruit for sure...hmmmm...what an amazing interesting flavor and mouthfeel...sweet and fruity at first with lots of those same green fruits, apple, pears...then a strong wood sourness with lots of brett comes in...then the residual sweetness from caramel and one of the signatures of Stille Nacht comes on in the finish...starts initially very carbonated, but the carbonation seems to be so delicate it coats your tongue when all the weird flavors come in...then the alcohol comes out too...good, but not quite amazing yet....seems like a clusterfuck right now because all the flavors coming on at the same time...

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2008 Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, some banana, sour cherry, green apple, brown sugar, with some yeast, and bordeaux wood. Taste was sweet, with vanilla, caramel malts, vinous, light sourness, and yeast, and a pronounced alcohol backbone. Thanks Jon!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2006 Bottle. This finally arrived in Tidewater, albeit in EXTREMELY limited quantities. Hazy coppery peach. The small sticky splotches of foam remain as delicate lacing. Nose is ripened fruit, mainly apple and berries with some grape skins, soft alcohol notes, and a bit of "green" fruits as well leading to some surprising tartness. Taste is very rich. Lots of yeast, sweet malts, soft alcohol, green apples, tropical fruits, grapes, light wood, vanilla, and candyish notes. Body is fully carbonated and medium overall. Vibrant tingling on the tongue and light alcohol warmth. Ends with more alcohol, sweet malts, over-ripened fruits, yeast notes, light flowery notes, more wood, and light spice. Very nice stuff! Can’t wait to see how this ages!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2005 vintage -- Shared with some of my co-workers at Capital Ale House - Innsbrook. Nice golden body with a good amount of white head. Aroma of sweet fruit with a nice tartness which is unusual, though very nice. Light fruitness in the body, some hops are present. Ending is nice and bity, nice end of the night beer.
