3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 EricE (1288) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - APR 17, 2011
Bottle shared by CaptainCougar. Pours a slightly hazy orange-yellow with a thin light tan head. Fruity, slightly sour aroma with notes of cherry, biscuit and a bit of alcohol. Some apple cider notes. Flavor is apple cider with port notes. Toffee and caramel. Lightly tart. Bready backbone and a bitter finish with some alcohol. Interesting beer.

Bottle courtesy of Maltzilla. Poured into a DFH tulip glass a slightly hazed orange tan with a touch of rose. The head is 1 finger of antique white. Head slowly settles to collar around the glass. Fruity, caramel notes in the nose. Crutch flavors include orange, peach, and banana. Ever so slight alcohol notes. Medium mouthfeel. Upfront this has a nice full fruity taste of both peach and apple mixed with the caramel. After that some of the heat from the booze makes itself known but I’d never guess it was 13%. Very tasty!

I had this at Kulminator into an Oerbier tulip...sadly this bay boy is way past its prime... pours a clear peach with no carbonation... the aroma is solvent alcohol with some candy sugar... the taste is bad, harsh alcohol mostly... my third time reviewing this as some obsessed loser moderator on ba kept deleting my rare reviews so this is lacking some details, however I remember enough to stay away

Quite an old bottle (of course), smells strong, reminding of ontbijtkoek -which I unfortunately, don’t really care for- and alcohol. Taste is in line with the smell, but a little stronger on the alcohol side, which in this winter-like beer, is really not a bad thing. Enjoyed it, but one per year would be enough.

Big thanks to Azurelimits for having brought this to a tasting. I believe this might have been when he also brought a vintage Westy 8. Sick, Pete.
Pours a moderately dark brown with a nice creamy head. Leaves behind a pretty decent amount of lacing. Nose is booze, caramel, and dark fruits. Really complex. A bit of oxidation has treated this bottle well. The taste has a bit of port and some caramelized dark fruits as well as a nice warmth from the booze. Medium body with low carbonation. Quite creamy. Drinks quite well.

33cl bottle at Kulminator. Pours a lightly hazy, deep gold/orange with a thin, clumpy white head. Nose is fruit, apple, rum, booze, candy sugar, lightly malty. Flavor is sweet, candy, fall fruits, boozy, rum, strong alcohol. Finish is full bodied and still a touch hot. Mellowed with aged but could definitely go a few more years.

Bottled. Yellow orange with white head, unfiltered... Aroma is vanilla, wood, wet animal, spiced. Flavor follows with strong funk and outrageous booze on the tongue. Backdoor horse/barn throughout.

Broke this one out of the cellar tonight for a Xmas eve treat. Pours a cloudy dark orange/auburn color with dark golden burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a 1.5 finger frothy white head. Very good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap that leaves sporadic spots of lacing behind.
Wonderfully complex aroma. Slightly tart in the nose with hints of peppery spice, caramel apple, brandy and other light fruits. Along with the alcohol sweetness I’m picking up some pear, cherry and banana. There’s also some caramel maltiness and a slight leathery presence. The aroma is incredible and I literally spent the first ten minutes just smelling this beer.
Slightly tart, puckering medium body with soft carbonation up front that mellows into a slightly slick, sweet estery flavor mid palate. Very complex with hints of caramel apple, pear and banana along with a sweet caramel malt backbone. The spice from the aroma is evident as well but has faded with time. Slight pepper and cinnamon notes. There is also a very subtle medicinal syrupy feel that is common in holiday beers. I usually hate this characteristic but here it is faint and adds balance and complexity. I’m also picking up some dark fruit especially grape, dark cherry and other berries. Very well balanced and very quaffable considering the ABV. There is still some nice alcohol warmth in the finish but age has done this beer wonders. The tartness becomes more prominet as it warms. Overall, I’m really excited that I got to try this beer. It’s holding up very well and I can see it aging for some time still. Excellent and highly recommended!

(Botle, 0.33 l, at Kulminator) The beer poured amber and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, raisins and dried plum. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, raisin, vineousness, sweetness, hops, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was dry, vineous, fruity and mildly bitter. A superb combination of sweet and tart flavours.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Abio (1132) - Waasland, BELGIUM - NOV 4, 2010
04 nov 2010 bottle at Kulminator Antwerp. Golden, light orange. Small head. Sour fruity smell. Lots of sourness, a bit to much probably cause the age. Earthy-fruity sour, almost no carbonation. Sweetness comes true a bit. A bit sad it didn’t aged better.
