3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, - FEB 10, 2004
UPDATED: APR 7, 2011 2008-02-29. 2003 Vintage. Dark amber-brown body with a small fading white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma, lightly fruity, alcoholic overtones. Sweet fruity flavour, sweet sugary malt and ambiguous but rich fruit. Lingering sweetness with alcoholic undertones. Smooth average palate fights above its weight. Really hit the right note for me - damn good! Bottle at Kulminator, Antwerp 8/3/9/4/18 - 4.1
Feb 2006 Hazy golden brown body with a small white head. (3+) Fruity alcoholic aroma, muted malt. Flavour is similar, fruit highlights over sweet light malt and sugary notes. Medium palate. Nice but fails to live up to my mental picture of the previous sample. 7/3+/7-8/4/15 - 3.8
Feb 2004 So I’m an idiot... Knocked this one out of the fridge while reaching for another beer, and just barely saved it with my foot. My sigh of relief lasted about two seconds before realising that the bottle was fizzing. I grabbed a glass and popped it open hoping to save it which simply allowed about half the bottle to explode into my sink. Sigh... I rescued enough to have a bit but it was a tragic loss. Thanks to IPfreely for picking up this 2001 vintage bottle for me from Premier Gourmet. Good size white head on a hazy amber body. Aroma is big sugary malt, and foretells of the massively sweet but not quite cloying flavour has a bit of alcohol and a slightly bitter finish to balance it off. A fine beer that I am going to have to try again in honour of the fallen portion. Perhaps a younger vintage to pay tribute to the lost. 7/4/8/4/16 - 3.9

Una cerveza compleja y bastante fuerte. Esta mejor dejándola un tiempo, ya que probamos una con año y otra con 2 años y habían perdido parte del toque de alcohol.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
From BA: Brewed in 2006, drank early 2007.
Small 33ml brown bottle, this is the 12% version, so may not follow others reviews, poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru large tulip glass.
Impressive slightly off white, huge head, which hung around for some time. The head sat on a almost hazy yellow body of liquid. Although this is classed as a dark ale, it is fairly light in appearance, even if you allow the sediment to get into your glass.
Aroma of sour yeast, citrus fruits, strong and heavy, with vanilla and bannanas in the mix somewhere too.
Taste is both bitter and sour, tart with a fizzy yeasty flavour which gives the beer an overall pleasing, refreshing feel to it.
The flavours stay in the mouth for a while, giving this beer a good strong mouthfeel, the yeast flavour stays the longest, leaving a bitter, truely yeasty taste in your mouth, at 12% you would expect it to hang around in the mouth though, wouldn’t you?
Very good beer, couldn’t drink it all night (without falling over), but a fine example of what Belgium can produce.
