COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ipso Facto is a top-fermented, bottle conditioned and unpasteurized Dutch abbey ale. It is named after an abbot of the Carthusian Order, whose title was Ipso Facto (it is a fact). This ancient and traditional Dutch Abbey ale is at its best when served from 54-58°F in the Brouwerij De Drie Kruizen glass.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2004 This is some heavy stuff. Very thick and almost overpowering in its winey, grapey, plummy flavor, probably port-like but I'm not really a port drinker. However, I did not find it to be overly tasting of alcohol. Definitely not the beer for a hot summer afternoon. UPDATE: When you find yourself still thinking of a beer that you drank 4 days ago, it must be better than your first rating. I really liked this a lot, so I am improving the rating from my initial 4.0. Too bad I have to go to Florida to get it.

Yeasty aroma with fruit, notes of lambic like wildness. Sweet mild berry flavor, woody, with licorice and a very mild cheesiness.

Deep ruby brown dark ale. aroma is that of raisins, bananas, bread dough and firm yeast. Smooth and rich molasses, brown sugar, figs, the finish is longer than an Alaskan winter's night, nice mouthfeel.Alcohol kicks in with after taste and is extremely warming, I would say this is right down Guslers' Alley .Rich vinious malts make me think this would age well and be a superb Holiday Ale, I saw several bottles sitting on my local beer store shelves & I doubt they will still be there after my next trip in, Recommended !

Ipso Facto that this one kicks arse. Clear orange color with a nice off white head. Musty aroma of Orange peel, tobacco, dried fruit, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is big and malty. Slight alcohol note in the background. Taste is reminiscent of dried apricot. Absolutely yummy.

Strong fruits aroma with orange and light port. Orange golden colour, lots of tiny bubbles, off-white firm head, very good lace. Very full, sweet, full of flavors, orange, raisin, prune, complex. Hopbitter finish and alcohol burn.

RateBeer Summer 2003: Murky brown color, malty complex spice in the aroma with a bit a light fruit. Ends a tad sourish. Smooth mouthfeel. An excellent brew that I need to try again.

2003. Cloudy and chunky dark brown. Different browns layering and mixing-looks like brown jupiter in a glass. Ugly in a good way. Small tan head doesn’t stay too long. Malt, candi sugar, dark dried fruits, yeast, alcohol-smells good. Some old must also. Same flavors, thick and chewy, mouthfilling flavor. Roasty. Chocoffee near the finish. Nice warming alcohol in the finish. Aftertaste matching the flavors. Drinks very easy considering what it is. Not much carbonation. Very good, complex brew.
