UPDATED: APR 12, 2009 Bottled (0.7 l) at the brewery. Dark orange coloured, tiny yeast particles, big head. Aroma of spices with some malts and fruit. Dry and bitter flavour. Not sure about the style, but it’s quite ok. Re-rate: Bottled 0.7 liter BB October 2008, sampled April 2009. Huge amount of yeast in the bottle, flakes all over the place. Very fruity nose. Flavour is way more fruity and sour than in a fresh sample. Complex, yet not very strong. Aging really improves this one.

(Bottled, 0.75l, Oerbier glass) Dark ruby red-amber color with a medium-large, tanned and foamy, lasting and lacy head. Sweetish, fruity, grainy-toffee-malty aroma. Starts off as very pleasant and fresh-fruity when pouring, but turns into duller and slightly ashy afterwards. Quite acidic, neutral flavor with dried-fruity, sweetish-grainy maltiness and a dryish, ashy and mildly bitter finish. Pouring in the yeast has very little effect. Medium-bodied, pretty foamy-carbonated palate. Of the abbey beers, this is more like Orval, than a Dubbel or Bruin - yet it has more sugar and especially less hops (it’s also not nearly as flowery). Overall a quite pleasant and easily drinkable brew, and not too sugary like most of the Dutch.

Dark brown color, foamy head. Sweet malty flavor with laurel, some roast and cinnamon. Raisin and pear. Also raisin and cinnamon in the aroma. Hint of port. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice one.

Aroma of slightly burned chocolate/coffee malts and prunes. Cloudy, brown coloured with a lasting, medium brown head. Taste is sweet, malty fruity (dark fruits). Decent body. Slightly bitter finish. Balance is average. Good brew. Much like an abbey double.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2007 Bottled, blind tasting session, 2.9: Aroma is bad, cherry, prune, butterscotch, but to me it had a vommit-like aroma in the background. The others didn’t notice it but I did. Brown color, hazy, beige head, good lace. Pretty sweet, light bitter, fruity but also sugar and a bit metallic. Bottled, Feb 2006, 3.5: Prune and plum aroma. Brown color, beige, head, good lace. Sweet, dried fruits, light spices, medium body, bit sugary.
