Deep red-brown, unclear after adding the "fond", beige head; not that much foam.
Nose is pretty strong with spices (like gingerbread), sugar, a whiff of alcohol. Almost smells like a port; has the nose of a stronger beer, also a bit fruity as in red fruits, e.g. raspberries.
Taste: little carbonation, a bit of roasted character, sugars without ever being cloyingly sweet, caramel, spices. Feels a bit too light or weak in the taste, but then again this is only 6.5%. Still, it doesn’t live up to the expectations set by the nose.
Aftertaste: smooth, slightly roasted, no sweetness but not a lot of bitterness either, again quite (or slightly too) soft.
Nice taste though it lacks a bit of body to stand out from the crowd.

Of all the De Graal beers I’ve tried, this is the least enjoyable for me. The classic flavors of dried fruit, brown/candi sugar, and spice are present in smaller degrees, but what really stands out is red apple and a woodsy quality of dried leaves and old wood, and the apple turns to apple skin in the finish. Kind of a dreary flavor, and not exactly appealing. The nose is similar, with earthy, woodsy aromas as well as a bit of cheesiness. Medium in weight, medium in carbonation, and fairly dry, especially considering the style. Hazy, amber-brown body with half an inch of dark-tan head that fizzes down to a thin ring fairly quickly, leaving no lacing. Didn’t enjoy this one.

Carbonation is lively.
Finishes mildly cloying, with a small dry bitterness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of roasted caramel maltiness mixed with some spice. Hazy, dark brown coloured with a lasting, thick brown head. Taste is sweet and bitter. Caramel malty, roasted. Some fruits (prunes/raisins) and definately spices in it. Bit like a combination between a dubbel and a stout. Nice.
