Of all the De Graal beers I’ve tried, this is the least enjoyable for me. The classic flavors of dried fruit, brown/candi sugar, and spice are present in smaller degrees, but what really stands out is red apple and a woodsy quality of dried leaves and old wood, and the apple turns to apple skin in the finish. Kind of a dreary flavor, and not exactly appealing. The nose is similar, with earthy, woodsy aromas as well as a bit of cheesiness. Medium in weight, medium in carbonation, and fairly dry, especially considering the style. Hazy, amber-brown body with half an inch of dark-tan head that fizzes down to a thin ring fairly quickly, leaving no lacing. Didn’t enjoy this one.

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2014 Smak och doft av humle, malt, farinsocker, torkad frukt så som russin och mörka plommon, honung. Stor sötma, lätt kropp för en belgisk typ av öl. Obefintlig beska.

Stubby bottle, 330 ml, poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 6.5% Amber coloured with almost two fingers of light beige head, with okay retention, leaving minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruits, plums, sweet in general, some grains too. Nice taste, again quite fruity, plums, slighty grainy, bubblegum on the finish, light yeast. Medium body, good carbonation. Slighty sticky on the palate. Maybe it’s a long time since I had a dubbel but I really liked this one.

Stor Big Brown Bastard-flaska från SB. Gyllenbrun, lågt beigevitt skum. Söt smakbild med mörkt socker, torkad frukt, honung, russin. känns aningen ihålig bortom sötman, i princip ingen beska, lite belgiska fenoler, mjuk munkänsla. En okej dubbel som trots sötman ändå är helt okej till mat med lite sötma.

750 ml bottle as "De Graal Big Brown Bastard", thanks to Reza! (Not on ratebeer, but well known in the beer circle in Gothenburg).
Hazy brown color, small tan head. Light phenolic, fruity, grainy scent. Sweet, soem liqourice, sugary, berry taste. Medium to full mouthfeel, very low bitterness. Sweet, light phenolic aftertaste.
A bit too sweet, wouldn’t want to drink a full bottle of this, not even a 33 cl by myself. Fairly nice in smaller volumes though.
