330ml bottle picked up at BSF, GBBF in August 08 to be enjoyed back home in Tromsø. Pours a huge rocky, white head partly lasting on top of a clear, golden body. Cloudy last pour, though. Smell of late oranges and sweet figs. Sweet, dried fruits in flavour supported by pale malts and herbs. Beneath there are discreet hints of elderflowers and ginger. More ginger on the swallow. Medium to full bodied. Dry in the mouth (11.10.2008).

Bottle @ thewolf tasting.
[thank you, Yespr]
Pours a hazy pale yellow with a slight green hue. A fine, lightly white creamy head. Good lacing. Aroma is sweet, lots of ginger. Okay mouthfeel. Flavour is soft, lightly tart, good ginger. Much like a Saison.

On tap @ Chez Moeder Lambic. Cloudy lemon-yellow with thick, cottony, white head. Gorgeous appearance. Aroma is sweet honey, floral and herbal, like lemongrass, orange peel, and yeah, that could be ginger. Flavor is cloying, medicinal herbal and spicy, with a mildly juicy center of lemon and faint ginger. Hops added some needed dimension toward the finish line, and the beer ends dry and piney with noticeable alcohol. Mouthfeel is lively and fairly dry. Interesting and complex, the only major turn-offs were the medicine and alcohol elements. Could be a great match with recipes that use ginger and lemon.

330ml bottle - aged 18 months
6 Gentle sweet malty aroma
4 Hazy orange, large tight head
7 Lovely mellow malty body, with a gentle bitter bite
4 Refreshing palate, crisp carbonation. Gently spiced ans with a sweet finish. Some hoppy bitterness too.
14 Lovely balance. Age seems to have mellowed the spices nicely. (Which might explain why things like SLH are better affter ageing - it’s not just the malts that improve.)

750ml bottle. This is REAL ginger ale. Best before 05/09. Pours a very intriguing gold with a nice big white head that leaves some nice lacing as it quickly dissipates, it is clear with yeast floaties. The smell is mainly of ginger root. It also has the typical yeast twang form a belgian pale ale. It is reminiscent of gruit and sahti with no sign of hops. The ginger isn’t as integral in the flavor. It tastes like a sweeter than normal Belgian blonde. It is sweet, almost cloying. Not as complex as I would have liked in the taste department. It is better than come other gruit ales but the exclusion of hops always seems you left there wanting more. The mouthfeel, though a bit cloying, is decent enough. It has decent drinkability. Overall it is a good spiced beer but like most it ends up being to sweet and un-complex. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-23-2010 01:17:44
