SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Oct 17, 2007 Bottle: Poured a dark brown with a red hint to it, the head was short tan. The aroma is fruit and malt, soft suttle spice also mixed in. The taste started off fruit with hints of berry, transitioned to sweet dark malt. Finally it ended sweet dry sugary on the tongue. Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Oct 7, 2007 Dark brown and unclear, sediment. Beige head, lasting. Sweet aroma, notes of spice and laqurice. Flavor is mainly sweet. Syrup texture. CapedBrewsader (260), Brasschaat, Belgium Aug 30, 2007 33cl bottle: Deep chestnut brown with a creamy cappucino froth. Aroma of dark fruit cake, ginger bread, with a soft spiciness followed by a malt sweetness. Maybe a little roast tucked up under the fruit and spice. Medium-light mouthfeel. An odd herbal and spice note that seems to explode off of the carbonation and get you in your nasal passages. Definitely something green and leafy but not quite describable. A bit harsh. There is roast, roasted nuts?, some caramel malts, but that "green" bite keeps annoying me. Like taking a fresh green twig off of a tree, spliting it open and licking it. Aroma was quite nice so its a shame that the flavor can’t back that up. Bart (1625), Vosselaar, Belgium Aug 23, 2007 Rubin red brown coloured beer with some very light carbonation and an average off-white head. Special herby, strong roasted malty alcoholic aroma. Full palate. Finish is strong, roasted malty with a sweet alcoholic aftertaste. Nice and complex beer. reakt (938), Greater London, England Jun 25, 2007 Deep amber with a thin off white head. Malt yeast and cocoa in the nose. Much like a porter, sweet and malty with tha coffee ground hint but ultimately thin and overly fizzy. The rusty iron description below quite sums it up. Not the greatest but still better than some porters out there, lol... yespr (11649), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 28, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours unfiltered brown with a semi crisp and creamy head, quickly disappearing leaving a fatty lacing. Aroma is spicy and whiskey like alcoholic with good portion of malt. Flavour is a harsh blend between cane sugar and malt in a very dark mix. Very dry and bitter finis with distinct spicy notes. Very strong in all its elements and rather unbalanced. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden May 25, 2007 Bottled. Hazy reddish amber with a firm tan-coloured head. Yeasty aroma of hay, phenols, spices, and cherries. full flavour of banana, cherries, nuts, paint and yeast with almondy undertones. Full-bodied. long and firm finish of toffee, light chocolate, nuts and banana. Well-hidden alcohol. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Mar 20, 2007 A Mes rate:
33cl bottle from Lowlander 2. Another one courtesy of Anthony from Du Boqc, cheers sir! Sadly this went straight back to the bar. Very badly oxidised as De Graal beers are way too often in my experience. Nose and flavour were dominated by rusty iron. Dark brown colour with a bubbly and uncontrolable head. Malty aroma with fruit and spice. Same in the flavour but a little sweeter. God it was awful.
