marcus (918), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 14, 2008 This dark amber ale poured with a short beige head and a malty aroma. There is a robust malt backbone overlayed with some very strong herbs and spices, including mustard. It leaves a warming sensatin all the way down. Incidentally, it goes quite well with ripe muenster cheese.
merlin48 (328), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Jun 25, 2008 2005 vintage served slightly chilled into a snifter produces a hazy amber body with a scanty beige that quickly disappears with only a few flecks of lace. Lovely aroma of florals, honey, vague spices, melon, and booze. Thick and coating on the palate with subdued carbonation and an alcohol bite. Taste is floral hop bitterness, caramel, and a melon fruitiness. Exotic spices lurk underneath. Burning alcohol surges to the forefront as it warms and proves to be a major distraction. Finishes hot and peppery. Might be an apt cold weather sipper. Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle. Very dusty found in a store in NJ probably past prime, oh well here goes. Pours a dark brown body off white head. Mostly a boozy aroma little dark fruit. A bit bitter sweet then almost booze some dark fruit however, given the blurb i’d say this missed the mark. Tmoney99 (3429), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle 2005 from Keg Liqour. Poured clear dark brown with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Heavy sweet hoppy and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Heavy complex toffee sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet and alcohol burn finish that was long lasting. This is a standout complex beer. BOLTZ7555 (408), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 26, 2008 2005 bottle acquired via trade from acrdz...thanks Mike!!! WOW, and I mean WOW!!! This is a beer that I think is a bit UNDER rated (and typically I feel the opposite). Deep ruby pour with a small khaki head. Burly aroma with sweet malt, alcohol burn, and aggressive spice all playing a considerable role. Flavor is extremely sweet (which helps the 12% alcohol) with caramel , toffee, and brown sugar. Syrupy but good...THANKS AGAIN!!! bhensonb (2735), Woodland, California, USA Apr 14, 2008 Dark amber color with a decent yellow/beige head. Nice aroma of fresh stone fruit and a little dark fruit. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Stone fruit and some unusual spices. Some heat in the throat. Moderately dry with a hint of caramel. The beer mustard is noticeable in the finish. Muenster cheese went really well with this. The impression turns a bit heavy with time.
