3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2009 The Lure:
Perfumy orange zest and caramelized sugars struggling to float atop the alcohol, not helped by the low carbonation.
Earthy hops and caramel malt sweetness are hindered by a thin mouthfeel and lots of boozy fumes. Mineral attributes plague the peaches and apricots.
Muscles shield the lack of content.
Just had a 4-year-old bottle of the same 2005 vintage and I canít say it is any better. Dreadfully simple and unrefined, and way overrated in my opinion.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy amber orange with an orange head that starts at the edges and dissipates completely. Aroma has lots of caramel and grain notes with a bit of backing toffee. Flavor has a good amount of toffee and grain with hint of warming alcohol and just a touch of caramel.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 2009 vintage. Bottle looks decent, so how are the contents? Pours dark red, no head. Smells very sweet - cherry, sherbert, bourbon, raisin. Although the smell is good in some ways and very distinctive, it is nauseating rather than appetising. Body is medium to light. Taste is like a whisky aged old ale, some sweet caramel malts. Not for me, but I could see some people liking it.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 on draft at the brewery. Deep amber with a thick, lasting, beige, super lacy, sticks to the glass, beige head. Smells of malt, dried berries, raisins, plum caramel malt and toasted malt. Medium to full oily body. Tastes of toasted malt, alcohol, caramel, overripe fruit, dried fruit. Nice spices and pepper on the dry smooth salty finish. Nice and flavourful but the alcohol is noticeable. Needs a few more years.

Bottle at Bruceís, thanks to Jacko. It pours lighly hazy deep amber with a small white head. The nose is toast, toffee, ginger, fudge and butterscotch. The taste is gingerbread, earth, good bitterness, mild resin, caramel, alcohol and medicinal notes with a dry, alcoholic fiish. Medium to full body and lowish carbonation. Prett hot. Ok, but nothing special.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
