The heaviest one, rich of taste, colour and body, a nice balance in spite of the high alcohol content.

1L bottle, not sure of vintage (at least 5 years old). Poured medium amber with a ring of looser-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up warm, aged dark fruits, vinous notes, and molasses with accents of dry, earthy spices, rum, and juniper really deep down.. warm and well-balanced. The flavor found dark fruits, licorice, and lesser smoked malts at the core.. rye, dry, toasted earth, and candied fruit skins around.. belly-warming finish.. this showed some age, but it aged really well. Medium-plus bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. soft and almost buttery across the middle.. this was really good.

1L Swing top bottle shared. Appearance: Dark copper orange with a one finger of tanned head on top, with an average retention. Light lacing Aroma is fruity (apricots, raisins, dates) with some sweet caramelised malts, some spices and alcohol. Taste: Sweet fruity and caramel following allowing the lines of the aroma, alcohol warms through and rounds the palate a slight light sourness in the finish.Aftertaste is sweet fruity. Body is medium, nice average carbonation.

Swing top bottle at home, 1L, poured into a snifter. ABV 10% dark orange copper to light amber colour on the body, one finger of tan head on top, with good density and average retention, leaving big bubbles and foam islands on the surface and light lacing around the glass. Aroma is fruity, with apricots but also some dark fruits, raisins, dates, some caramel and spices, obvious alcohol. Taste has spices, fruits, caramel, the alcohol is there but it doesn’t burn or annoy, raisins on the finish, more fruits on the aftertaste. Overall sweet but on a good level. Body is medium thin with good carbonation. Overall very good and tasty, definitely the best of De Hemel beers I’ve tried till now.

A beer that gets better with every sip. I dont get a lot of aroma, hence the lower rating, it really should be higher. The balance is world class. The way this beer changes as it warms, really interesting. Had this with smoked sausage, a great combination. On tap at in de wildeman.

25/02/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Note alcoliche un po’ più evidenti. Bel corpo, consistenza oleosa, quasi piatta. Ok.

Backlog rating 3-05-2009 (Flip-top bottle) This beer when poured has a small tan head with poor retention, transparent body, visible carbonation, no lacing, and the hue of the body is reddish. The aroma consists of malt, alcohol, notes of caramel, spicy, and sweet. Ditto for the taste. The palate is tingly along with a warming sensation and this is a light-medium bodied Barley Wine. All-in-all, this is a sipping beer given the ABV, and is worthy of trying. I would definitely drink this beer again and I recommend it.
