The heaviest one, rich of taste, colour and body, a nice balance in spite of the high alcohol content.

Thank you for sharing people! Sampled bottled @ “Gouda Winterbier Festival 2016”. Deep red amber, solid tanned head. Nose is weird plants, vegetables & spoiled malts. Taste is spoiled moldy red fruits, herbs, sugar, old malts & plants. Weird messy & milky body. I quite liked the Grand Cru version but this one is an odd mess at best for me. I have no idea what happened here. Maybe a bad bottle?

Bottle with the expiration date of 31/8/2014. Drank last evening after some other beers. Too bad it was our last in our session, because this one definitely had some flavors that needed far better treatment. However, after all, I managed to get at least a bit behind this pretty well brewed barley wine. It pours slightly hazy amber with a stable head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is mainly malty with some strong sweet notes. Caramel is omnipresent, but it feels very soft in the nose. Liked it. Tastes also very, very soft. Of course, it is the sweetness that dominates, but it has that nice soft, almost honey-like, spicy and fruity layer that sizzles on the tastebuds, making it quite a pleasant one in terms of sweetness. Just perfectly balanced and a true tasteful gem. Nice, slightly warmish end, that made every sip a heavenly one. Beautiful thick and syrupy texture, that goes accompanied with a nice full body. Nieuw Ligt is truly a great one, that certainly deserves a better treatment that what I gave to her. Beautiful soft barley wine, absolutely a gem in Dutch brewing.
