29/XI/13 - 33cl bottle from Bles Bierfestival 2013 (Zottegem) @ home - BB: XI/2014 (2013-1098)
Clear ruby red beer, big aery beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: metallic, caramel, some dried fruits, bit of orange peel. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bitter start, bit of caramel, metallic, grains, some citrus. Aftertaste: very bitter, grassy, some citrus, caramel, metallic, bitter dry ending. Not too bad. But definitely not a dubbel, by any standards!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From 33cl bottle from Binny’s poured in a tulip. Minimal head and lacing cloudy nut brown appearance. Aroma is truly delightful. Spicy and fruity, notes of hazelnut and raisin. Flavor is less spicy and herbal than I expected. Almost a bit dour. Grainy bock-like finish. Very slight bitterness. Thin mouthfeel, especially for a dubbel. Interesting, but unexceptional beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cL stubby bottle notched as 2009 on the side of the label. Brewed at De Graal. Picked up at Binny’s in Chicago, probably sat on the self this whole time. The beer pours with a medium head and a dark brown body into my Jolly Pumpkin & Maui Brewing Sobrehumano tulip. Aroma is very much Dubbel and the age has helped, imo. Sweet black bread with light plum ascents. So Belgian, so dubbel and nicely subdued by the age (btw, no cardboard coming through). Flavor is less aggressive but a more caraway and less sweet (and less plumy) black bread. Very nicely attenuated finish to the beer. Just a nice beer, nicely aged with no sigh of age. Medium-light with an effervescent finish. There are a lot of 12 Percent imports that I do not like so much but I really like this one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, some caramel and light chocolate from the malts, a little bit of toffee, and some light hops. Flavor the same with a nice balance of everything. Average texture. A pretty good dubbel.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Stubby bottle of 11.2 oz. Nose sweet and very fruity Belgian yeast with a little air and minerality, pours deep dark brown with a rocky tan head. Taste is sweet with lighter complementary bitterness, lots of fruit, some of it of the rotten kind, but that intensely jammy tang is still appreciated. Medium body with a good deal of complexity in its malt-forwardness; no doubt, the tongue knows this is a proper dubbel!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @19de Internationale BierHappening, Zottegem.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, raisins, caramel, dark bread, red berries and a hint of liquorice. Malty, fruity, slightly toasted taste with notes of dark bread, caramel, raisins, wort, hints of chocolate and a spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with well balanced sweetness. Complex and quite nice.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hmm... a little odd to name a beer after a local cookie when the beer has nothing to do with such a cookie.
