3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Slokop (102) - Tilburg, NETHERLANDS - MAY 20, 2009
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2009 What is brewing cuvee more than stacking away beers with little expectations for later and hoping for the best or just better than it is now and was then. Hope to find out with this strong ale.
Not a very true head develops, but colour is radiant red. Mouth feel is thin, but the liquid bunks in pretty well. Sweetness comes in just after a nice bitter gush. Bitters morph into dryness. I think I saw the whole picture. But no, not yet. The beer is gone and we’re out of it.
Next gush.
Hm.. another next.
A thin double or dubbel. On the off-sweet side. Great. The keeping was the result worthy.
Its head is chopped off. Koninck please stack away more for the future.
But work on the foam.

Good off-white head, over dark copper beer, clear. Typical De Koninck yeast nose, noble hops, caramel, lightly roasted. Sweet-spicy, with playful if not very distinctive hops, surrounding the malts; bit nutty. Slick, even sticky MF, lots of restsugars. Some vanilla retronasal, but also getting a bit empty. Sweet – but I wonder with some lagering? The hopping seems to be OK, the ABV would sustain it, so…
