3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DruncanVeasey (4794) - NUNEATON, Conference North, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JAN 12, 2010
Draught in various bars around Antwerp. Red-orange glow with a thin fine head. Yeasty, sweet bready aroma with variable amounts of peardrop and praline (Westy?!). Cinnamon-dusted spice, honey on bread, peardrop frutiness, nice creamy bread linger. Bolied sweets, hint of dry yeasty bite. Peardrop esters highly pronounced in some samples, non-existent in others. Soft and slick like English bitter, but (discreetly) fruitier, with an obvious Belgian yeast influence. Huge improvement on the bottled version, no doubt. Sweet easy sessions.
1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 Hopper (751) - The Alamo, Texas, USA - JAN 11, 2010
An amber color beer with no head. The aroma is not much with a very watery mouthfeel, watered down taste that was actually very smooth. Not a Begian I am used to.

Had a gift pack with a beautiful glass, The beer had some malty notes but otherwise I normally seek a little more flavor in my brews.

Bottle.
Poured an amber color with almost no head.
The aroma is fruity with hints of yeast and sour tones.
A hint of a slight acidity, a little yeast, sugar and fruits. Unfortunately, the beer feels pretty thin and watery.

Gold pour. Nice malty aroma, caramel, bread, yeast, light honey and some fruit. Flavor is a maltorama! Honey and caramel with some honey wheat bread. Good and refreshing.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 sound67 (223) - Offenbach, GERMANY - NOV 26, 2009
33cl bottle, as pictured.
Pours a clear deep amber with a small off-white head. Little lacing.
Aroma of toasted malt, cherries and wood.
Light-bodied and fizzy for a Belgian ale. Grainy, earthy mouth feel, active carbonation.
Taste of roasted malt, again cherries, resin and a wee bit of citrus. Medium-bitter middle, mildly sour-bitter finish, no lingering after taste.
This is strictly a by-the-numbers red ale. Have yet to taste a red one (from Belgium OR Scotland OR Ireland) that has truly unique characteristics, or stands out in any way. Nothing special, won’t order again. Then, not nasty either. Just boring.
