My local pub brew for the years that I lived in Antwerp, the "bolleke" (De Koninck) as it is known in Antwerp due to the shape of the glass it is served in, is one of Belgium’s fine, underrated brews. Fruity and smooth, amber in color with just the right amount of carbonation (on tap), give this tasty beer a very good overall rating in my book. Lately it has been available in both bottle and on tap in my locale.

Drinking this out of the proper "bolleke" glass in an Antwerp pub is a wonderful experience. This beer also keeps very well in bottles, so worth picking up a case if you can find them. It is not commonly exported in Europe, one might have to do a little digging to find it in one’s home country.

At Bier Central during the guys trip to Antwerp. Pours a nice Medium golden yellow color. Minimal fizzy white head, lasted maybe a minute or two. Aromas of light spices, a touch of brown sugar.

Hasselnötsbrun öl med lätt vitt skum. Doft av jäst lätt kryddighet och bränt socker. Samma går igen i smaken. Något för söt.

Clear copper amber pour with a medium sized yellowish head, which diminishes to a thin film. Low-keyed, light sweetish nose. Sweet-tart tasted, fruity aroma with caramel, citrusses and some hops in the background, mouthfeel’s slick. It finishes medium to long and dry with nuts and citrus-fruits, which leaves a tart aftertaste behind. Not too sweet, overall a good and easy drinkable one.

11.2 fl oz / 33cl bottle. ABV listed as 5.2%. Expiration date is January 2012. Perfectly clear dark orange color. Very thin foamy off-white head leaving thick, crooked rows of lace. Carbonation is strong. Texture is nice, light, and dry, though. An interesting, fresh sweet fruity aroma. Strawberries, fruit punch, maybe... And along with the fruitiness, the obligatory belgian yeast base. Not too strong, though. Just a light, sweet taste, not much else. Interesting cross between a fruit beer and a belgian, the way I see it. Just a bit too carbonated.
