Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Mar 8, 2005 A little dissapointing considering that many people I know worship this brew. Amber hue with flavors of spices and malts with that generic belgian flair. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2005 Slightly hazy amber w/ large, creamy pale tan head. Sweet, mildly peppery/spicy aroma w/ fruity/citrus & light metallic notes. Light, highly carbonated feel. Flavour is malty, yeasty, spicy, & well-balanced but surprisingly bland for a Belgian Ale. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 6, 2005 Quickly thinning head. Dark amber with a few large floaties. Sweet aroma a mixture of icing sugar, alcohol and vanilla. Flavour-wise the beer can be described as a Belgian session ale or a Belgian amber ale. No dominant flavours. A light vanilla flavour. ToolHead (235), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 5, 2005 33 cl bottle. Served in Westmalle goblet. Clear copper color. Nice head. Malty, pleasantly sweet, moderately bitter. Very well-balanced and harmonic. Eminently drinkable. MillStreetMan (152), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 4, 2005 This beer wasn’t fundamentally bad, just lacking in the extra ’something’ to make it worthwhile. It looked pretty good, with a dark amber colour. The nose wasn’t terribly complex, with a bit of yeast and spice but not much more than that. What was really disappointing was the flavour, which was expected to be relatively rich, but was instead thin and bland. There was a decent beer wanting to be revealed, but was pulling its punches. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Mar 2, 2005 Updated: Feb 25, 2008Bottled. Pours a dark coppery color with no head only a bit of white lacing. Skunky aroma with a bit of spiciness and some yeast. Thin, watery biscut maltiness with a decent hop bitterness but it all blends into an almost water-like flavor. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2005 Grapevine Market, Austin Tx., 11.2 fl oz. Pours a dark copper with a silky smooth white head and decent lacing. Aroma is non distinct, slightly peppery. Flavor has some bitter notes, reminds me more of an Alt than a Belgian. Flavor is slighlty nutty with some fresh lake water notes and not much else. Slightly thin mouthfeel, but goes well with the bitterness. Good for session material. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 16, 2005 Updated: Jul 12, 2005On tap at Pub Italia. Dark amber ale with a thick off white head. Strong apple and beeries in aroma. Rather oxidized malts and sweetish maple notes, with some german style hoppiness. Medium bodied. Very slightly above average. 6-3-5-3-11
Bolleke at Oude Arsenaal, May 2005. Red amber ale with a thick off white head. Sweet perfumey aroma of rosewater and sweet vanilla. Sweet maple-like sugar, with delicate nuttyness, very floral in mouth, like rose petals. 8-5-8-4-15
