Geruch fruchtig-apfelig (Sorte Joseph oder Jonathan). Antrunk kurz hopfig, dann sehr aromatisch mit ätherischen Aromen (Nagellack), was sehr angenehm wirkt. Süßliches Ambiente. Sanft bitter ausklingend.
Gutes Bier. Test vom 29.11.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 erickok (802) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - MAY 26, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2011 Clear copper body with fair, soapy off-white head. Metallic, cherry, white sugar, dry grass; not impressed at all. Taste also is quite metallic and salty... with a light sour note to at least make it somewhat interesting. Apart from that watery and with a very short after taste. Don’t understand the popularity of this at all. (33cl bottle)
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Martinus (663) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - MAY 26, 2011
Had a chance encounter with the brewer a short while ago, so thought I should drink his beer again. It just made me think again about De Koninck and that is a rather nice example in the Speciale Belge genre.
It has quite a beautiful, clear amber colour, fluffy thought small head. Aroma of caramel and sweet malts. Some slight banana. Flavour of malts, sweet but not too sweet, rather dry, balanced notes of hops. Very balanced beer, could’ve been a bit more hoppy for my liking but that just wouldn’t fit the genre.
(From tap, in a "bolleke" glass of course)
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MrHangover (341) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - MAY 17, 2011
De Koninck fails to impress me. It’s an ok beer, but it fails to distinguish itself from other dark belgium ales. So it’s just one of those beers that doesn’t leave much of an impression. When served in it’s original goblet it looks ok and the thin foamy head makes it a bit... uninviting. The taste is just as it looks, not really special, an ok dark beer. Hints of malt and sweet herbs. Not the best, certainly not the worst.
