3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Nuffield (3058) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 24, 2002
A beer with some contradictions. Creamy looking pale ale color--it could have passed for a lookalike of an English cream bitter. Yet, a lager-like aroma and a distinctive, more Belgian flavor with some spiciness. Good body. Not brilliant, but interesting. (on tap, Belgo, Kingsway, London)
3.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 HumbertHumbert (77) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 9, 2006
Poured with a nice lasting head. Nice mild, bready aroma. Sweetness that stuck to my lips, but was vanquished by a bitter finish that grew to dominate the palate by the end of the glass. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer and enjoyed it thoroughly - was expecting something bland along the lines of Brugse Zot.

bottle. Dark amber colour. Very pleasant combination of hops and fruity, well-balanced beer. Slightly sour and grainy, hints of coffee in the aftretaste and finish.

Bottle with Trine on Utrechtsestraat. Quality. One of my favorite beers. Very smooth and rich tasting. Fruity aroma with caramel taste. Divine for such a widely-available brew.

Sweet malty carmel aroma with hints of fruit. Amber color with thin white head, disappears fast. Raisin, brown sugar, and estery fruitiness dominates the flavor, with traces of lemon grass and sherry. Drinkable middle of the road mouthfeel. Sort of taste like a mix of a very estery English ale and Belgian ale, definitely tastes like it uses invert sugars but doesn’t. Overall simple and straight forward enough to pair with lots of food, but flavorful enough to stand on it’s own and is worth having a few. Should be great fresh rather than bottled and served 1/3rd way around the world!

UPDATED: APR 24, 2008 on tap at the Brick Store Pub on 11/4/07. Belgian’s session beer as the menu declared. This is true... at only 5% it is truly a very drinkable Belgian. Not too much going on with this one - a basic drinkable golden ale....
