Draft at PP Belgian Beer Fest. Some sour fruitiness on the aromas, but it was mostly malty. Flavor was almost all malt and some alcohol. Very dubble like. Not bad.

Nice amber color pour, smells of sweet grains, not much head. Very smooth on the palate, sweet malts, nice sweet aftertaste, but not too strong.
Very good beer, will buy again.

Pours a brownish amber with a small head. Nose like toasting bread with slight notes of fruit and mild spice. Taste of malts with hints of apple and pear, and perhaps, banana. Tangy finish.

Some beerish aromas similar to lambics and some malt in the background.
Has a real light amber color with a copper hue. Off white head dissipated with some sign of action and a little sediment.
Has a broth taste with some eyewater tea sweetness inthe background.
Light to medium bodied and a watery blended resin feel.
Definite session beer kind of a mild chewy amber.

Originally rated August 2005. Had this one on tap at the Pub Italia on Preston in Ottawa, Ontario. Poured an amber-red colour with a short lived head and some lace. A slight coat of it patched up the top. Hop was found in the nose with roasted malt and floral notes. Kind of pilsner-like at first, in the taste. Mild tasting with a bitter finish. Notes of orange and other fruits. The mouthfeel was dry. A beautiful and refreshing belgian well-balanced swill (if you want to call it that).

Bottle poured in De Koninck glass. De Koninck is a nice, clear amber coloured beer in the style of the ’Speciale Belge’. It has a nice dense head which does not last very long. In my opinion, De Koninck is a great beer for the summer months, it is as fresh as a Pilsener but it has the ’body’ of a good ale combined with the drinkability of a lager. Taste wise, the things that I noticed most were the malt and a taste that I would compare to cinnamon. The taste of hops is there too but it is definitely held back. Brewed from 100% malted barley and Saaz hops, the folks at De Koninck brewery clearly know a thing or two about quality ingredients in it shows in their beer. In all, De Koninck is a beer which I highly regard and especially recommend to those looking for a nice summer refresher without having to fall back on cheap tasting lagers from the large breweries.
