33cl bottles, Geers, bb? (brewed 05/2014). A crooked altar provides an oblique metaphor for what you would imagine a slanted transatlantic collaboration between two idiosyncratically Romance and cryptocatholic anarchist breweries would look like: the Devils’s Hole has done a great and fruity number on the stubborn series of Belgian ales De la Senne has been putting out lately: more fresh peach and some pink grapefruit in the nose, accompanying that house yeast strain’s earthy, aniseed-infused chalkiness. Pours rather cloudy, soft milkshake, with ample protein. Not getting much malt spice from the added rye, in fact the middle part is a bit thin, but pleasantly lush and soggy. Somehow a milk rice, transparent sake quality to the palate. Glad to have bought a few to revisit, as this beer’s unfocused subtlety kindles the imagination as much as its crooked metaphor.

#2. 6.3% cloudy dark amber lasting beige head. Yeast fresh aroma beer. Some spicy rye. But this is delicious. Good rye. Spicy. Oranges. Love the aroma. Just excellent beer. Surprise of the day.

courtesy of bartlebier, thank you! fruity nose with hints of lemon zest, herbs and a bit of pepper, great mouthfeel, great drinkability, layered taste of more citrusy, peppery, herbal and yeast estery aromas. Interesting beer!

500 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy, flakey, whitish pale golden with a nice white head. Aroma is lemon, grapefruit, vanilla, tropical fruit. Flavor is lemon, mango, pepper, menthol. Finish is lemon, quite bitter. Some herbs and grapefruit. Lingering hops bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. One of the most purely refreshing belgian ales I’ve had.

(33cl from de la senne - labelled as #2) pour cloudy very pale golden with a tall off-white head showing good retention and lacing. healthy yeast, sulfur, very grassy and herbaceous, citrus, grapefruit, pine; pils and pale spicy and bready maltiness, plenty of other spices. average carbonation, light body - oily and creamy mouthfeel, assertive grassy-spicy-peppery finish. seems a lot more belgian than the version brewed at tdd - perhaps an authentic yeast combined to a more herbaceous hop varietal. nice offering!

Pour is dark amber with a tight white head. Nose is earthy and grainy with a moderate peppery spice, leathery brett, nice farmhouse notes. Flavor is a bit thinner, dry finish, somewhat malty, nice grain and farmhouse notes. Peppery in back, nice tang. Light body soft carb, easy drink.

Bottle @ home. Golden to orange color, cloudy. Big, dense white head with retention throughout. Aroma’s: refereshing, fresh hops, citrus, fruity hops. Retronasal there’s additionally resin and citrus. Flavor is moderate bitter, but still rather mild. Light to medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Finishes with a long bitter flavor. Nice!

Moeder Lambic. Cloudy orange with a big white head. Fruity aroma with tropical fruit in particular. Sweet malty and fruity flavour with good balance from plenty of hops

Bottle from Cave a Bulles. Pours hazy orange/gold with a white head. Light fruity aroma which seems to include citrus. Med body. Flavor is fruit, some yeast/spice, arguably some malt that is not either pale or roasty, and bitter. There’s a lot of hop, but it’s not really harsh, and only slightly burning. It finishes bitter.

Bottle, Geers. Pours hazy yellow / dark yellow. Big white head. Spicy nose, surely coriander. Also has this tangy bread aroma, thought it was wheat at first, but apparently rye. Good flavor balance, good palate.
