Tap Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours hazy orange. Frothy white head. Med minus body. Light Belgian yeast/spice; floral; fruity esters. Touch of citrus. Flavors are relatively subtle, but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Mildly bitter. Sort of Belgianized ESB. Quite nice.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A Belgian beer I haven’t had, served in the US of A? In proper glassware? Holy cow! What’s going on? Oh wait, I must be at Armsby abbey. Draft. Hazy golden yellow color, huge white head with good retention and solid lacinf. Aroma of raw rising bread dough. Taste is peppery sourdough bread, very yeasty, citrus, bitter straw finish. Absolutely classic.

Dry and yeasty flavor up front backed by juicy orange peel, lemon peel, and grapefruit. Soft, dry finish. Damn enjoyable! So pure.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught at Moeder Lambic (Fontainas)
Pours a hazy orange color with a medium looseish head that leaves some lacing on the glass.
The aroma has a good deal of orange rind and floral hop, a bit of raw grain, and has a light sweet character.
The flavor of the beer features almost none of the aroma promised sweetness, is strikingly, strongly bitter & very enjoyably dry. The flavor is focused around leafy hops and bitter grapefruit. The malt character is not hidden but it’s certainly mellow and particularly lovely is the mild marmalade note it imparts to the beer.
This one takes the low abv high hop thing right to the edge but never falls off into overkill, like most of the De la Senne stuff I’ve had this is elegant, delicious, and highly drinkable.
