On draft at The Sovereign for the Brasserie de la Senne beer dinner with Yvan De Baets. Poured a dark brown color. Aroma was notes of raisin, sugar notes. Brown, malty sugar. Roasted malts. Light chocolate notes, roasted. Dark fruit sweetness on the finish.

Bottle. Clear mid brwon with a large beige head. Aroma of mocha, earth, pepper, lemon. More coffee than chocolate, quite earthy. Salted caramel. Very light bodied for 8%. Relatedly, quite dry for the mocha and slightly brioche-y malt side of things. Dry, earthy and spicy at the end with moderate bitterness. Interesting beer, reminds me of Doctor’s Orders Iron Lung as much as anything.

Bottle at home. Pours black in colour with red hints against the light. Tan head which is rocky which fades a bit but leaves a good lacing on the glass. The aroma is of rich malt, sweet fruit and some peppery hop. A sweet start soon gives way to a bitter finish. Lots of flavour - rich malt, burnt toasted flavours, juicy fruit with lots of hop bitterness. More like a strong stout than an IPA, but really good.

Svart öl med beige skum. Doft av malt, kaffe och lätta tuggummitoner. I smaken tillkommer lätt fruktighet. Hade gissat på en porter snarare än svart ipa.

SvartIPA. Jo. Kaffe. Besk. Check. Inte min kopp av kaffe, kanske. Som den äckliga pralinen, det är svårt att låta bli...

330ml bottle, BB 19 May 16. Pours very dark but presents as deep ruby coloured when held up to a light, large frothy tan head. Lots of chocolaty aromas, with some earthy and grassy hop notes. The chocolate notes carry through in the taste, along with a very earthy yeast character, spicy and slightly floral juicy hop profile, dry finish. Light to medium bodied with light acidic prickle. Really good black IPA.

Dark brown color with creamy brown head. Aroma has dark malt, brown sugar, roasted coffee and some earthy hops in the background. Taste starts slightly sweet and yeasty, with dark sugar and some chocolate. Finishes bitter and roasty with some earthy hops. Medium body and carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel. An interesting, "belgian-style" take on the style which turned out quite well.
