Bottle dated June 2013. Effervescent, lightly hazed amber with a tall-building white foam head. Sugar cookie Belgian Pale malt with a more moderate hop profile of grass, flowers and citrus. Medium-full body, sweet approach turning to drying, phenolic, bitter finish. Extremely clean nose, no trace of ethanol, malt is superbly soft, creamy and fine carbonation. Kind of a head scratcher that we are getting 11-month old bottles in Colorado just now (May 2014), and surprised to see it’s held up so well, a testament to the brewing skill at De la Senne, sure, but not all of their beers stand up to that amount of time (see Aug 2013 batch of Taras Boulba that showed up 6 months old and oxidized earlier this year).

Bottle (June 12, 2013 batch). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium to dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain / crackers), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with light notes of gum, pepper, alcohol, pineapple. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Dammit, I hate how so many imports we get on shelves here are already a year old, especially with stuff from De La Senne and De Ranke (oh, and Haand, and...). Why is this such a problem in this day and age? It’s not like there’s an overabundance of these beers produced in the first place...so who the fuck is just sitting on the limited stock? The importer? The distributor? Certainly not the retailer. Are these breweries sending the importer old shit? Doubtful. I don’t get it. Anyways, enough of that rant. At its old age, this beer is certainly not that vibrant, and yet...it’s still wonderful...enticing nose, very clean, very well-balanced, very much to style unlike most American overly sweet banana bombs. If this were fresh, it would almost certainly be a 4+ rating. I probably shouldn’t even rate it as-is, in fact, but it’s worth knowing that De La Senne is making a tripel that crushes 90% of its competition even after a year of fading. Curses to whomever is responsible for causing (very) old stock to be sold as new, arrgghh!

Hazy pale yellow colour with nice lacing. Aroma is fresh and zesty. Flavour has quite a light yeasty taste with a refreshingly dry and bitter finish.

Bottle. Hazy hay yellow liquid with medium white head. Aroma of white pepper, jenka, bubblegum, raw sugar and bread. Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with notes of white pepper, jenka and bread. Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Really good. My favorite Tripel.

Nice tripel, aroma is not that special but the simple refreshing taste makes this a very nice addition to the Belgian tripels. Like the other beers from De La Senne, the hops cab be easily noticed in this one and that is a good thing.

Jaune brilliant opaque avec une énorme mousse blanche. L’arôme des levures belges, un peu fruitée, et un peu d’houblon fraîche. Le goût est très similaire, mais avec un peu de malt au début.

orange color, with white head. nose: malts, sugar, hop, bit metal, very subdued nose. taste: average carbonation, bit fruity, citrus, peaches. MF: outspoken bitter finish, full body. This is a decent tripel, just lacking a few dots on the i to excel.
