Manneken-Penn is a 7.5% Belgo-American Dubbel whose name and label art were inspired by Philadelphia’s famed William Penn statue above City Hall, and Brussels’ landmark Manneken Pis sculpture of a playful naked boy – ahem – relieving himself. Manneken-Penn was made with oats, molasses and a combination of American and European hops. It is imported for PBW by Shelton Brothers and will be available both on draft and in 11.2 oz bottles.

Bottle thnx to Sebastian ( Brocante ) . Pours darker and unclear amber . Good white head . Smell is sweet, amber malts . Some copper . Taste is sweet, bit bitter , some herbal notes . Some earth-like maltyness . Carbo is just perfect , and the mouthfeel is significantly more thick than other de la senne beers .

bottle, drank with the Philly crew when they were in Brussels to brew this beer, great time. amber brown pour, medium bodied. dubbel notes, raisins, light chocolate, some dark fruits, I gathered a wisp of smokiness in this too. decent

Dark reddish-brown pour with a nice khaki frothy head on top. Good lacing throughout the grass. Candied fruit of plum, dates, raisins, and maybe even cranberry picked up quickly in the scent, followed by yeast, caramel, and light toast. Smooth, velvety body, with a yeast character, raisin bread, candi sugar, toast, and spicy fruity notes. Malty sweetness upfront turns a touch bitter and dry in the finish. Warming but not alcoholic but at the same time substantial. I like how the Belgian yeast comes out in the flavor and there seems to be the right amount of spicy/bitterness contrasting with the sweetness, for a Dubbel. This is a good beer.

One of Belgian for Philly beer week 2013. A little sweet, but also balanced and nicely drinkable. Lots of thick lace.

> Da le Senne creates a bitter and dry Abbey Dubbel making it nothing like an Abbey Dubbel

[ Bottle ][ Teresa’s Next Door ][ 330mL ][ Narrow Flared Tulip ][ $8-10 ][ 2/16/14 ]
>> Split with the legend MrChopin. Not everyday you get a new De La Senne rake. Murky red brown pour with excellent rocky, yellowish foam. Great retention and lace. Nose is muted, as it warms it gains rich toffee. Taste is bitter, grassy, not too sweet, a bit drained and bubbly. Wouldn’t peg it as an Abbey Dubbel given the bitterness and dryness, but people for Philly Beer Week probably asked De la Senne to try and brew their least favorite beer style and make it drinkable, so they chose Abbey Dubbel. Not too dry but extremely dry for style. Clean, mild celery, high mineral content, high grassy bitterness. A stand alone within this style.

<!> better than Abbey Dubbel would allow it to be

murky chestnut, effervescent, large puffy white head. Lightly earthy nose, banana esters and pepper crackle, light almond skin and faintest sugars, incredibly dry for a dubbel. Only slightly more brown sugar in the flavor, still very dry, dates up front with light paper and pepper mid, the heat growing into the sticky, confusingly full bodied finish. Too much heat, nose balance way better, dryness appreciated throughout.
